LEGO... simultaneously the best thing ever for a parent.... and the bane of a parent's life. My children love LEGO... however, the oldest one really loves making the actual things that the instructions give. So, in this case a boat for her LEGO friends. It's great, we give her a new set of LEGO... and she is completely obsessed about it until it is finished! Which usually is about 2 hours at most... It is quite surprising how quickly they manage to get it all together... if only they managed to clean and tidy their rooms with the same laser sharp focus...
Anyway, that obsession doesn't extend to creating new designs for herself (well, it is starting to... but she really still likes making the things that are described in the instructions). Which means, when things eventually get broken up, either by her friends or her little sister, she is desperate to try and rebuild the model in the exact way that it was described. As anyone knows, that is a right pain in the arse when all the pieces are scattered everywhere.
However, to avoid tears and a completely down in the dumps kid... well, that is what a parent ends up doing... rounding up all the little bits and pieces that have been mixed up in the big LEGO box.... and then trying to help rebuild. Thankfully, this one is on the small side... there is a plane that will need to be rebuilt later...
So, here is the ever helpful instruction manual... well, it is helpful... aside from the fact that all the various pieces aren't all in the same easy to find packets anymore! ARRRRRGHGGHGHGHGHGHG!!!!!! Part of this can be sheeted home to a certain un-named other parent who cleans up with amazing gusto and energy... but dumps things in the box so that they fall apart.... sigh...
So, here is one of the boxes... I'm going to start here. It is October vacation after all, and it is a nice way to spend time with your kids... As you can see, there are various other LEGO Friends houses to be re-built as well... after the great Mum-Polcalypse (heh... LEGO movie reference?!?!??!!?) from earlier in the year! There is also a plane and that should be it. I'm going to try and make a little space where they can be played with and stay out of the way, perhaps somewhere high... or building out a ledge on her bed or something like that...
...we'll just dump this out on the floor and start work... hopefully the wife won't notice?
