Community effort will be required to facilitate the growth of Hive, and while I must commend the effort of evry stakeholder, I still believe that there's still a lot more that we could do to improve out mainstream appeal.
Hive is a decentralised blockchain where you can earn cryptocurrency through blogging and social media activities. You could even go a step further to explain how people could earn and discuss engagement and whatnot if need be, but is that really enough?
On hive, the social experience isn't quite like other centralised entities; first of all, we're still basically a closed knit community where everybody knows somebody that knows somebody, and we have our own style, of sorts, that differs from say, Facebook or Medium.
With emphasis on the social aspect of the community, we need to try to dumb things down a bit around here, and do the utmost to avoid placing too much emphasis on those redundant statistics that don't mean much in the general scheme of things. I mean, I get that we need to know about activities on the platform but too much talk about it is just a waste of time and very pointless.
One of the selling points of hive that resonates with me is the importance of originality, however, it is something that a lot of people don't seem to have. On traditional social media like Twitter wheer people freely copy and paste content without worry of copyright violations, we have mechanisms in place to fish that out, but like I said, we don't need to ostrasize those people. Hell, I think we need to find a way to accomodate them through kindness and simple "post the link of your source" type shit, instead of labeling them.
Unlike social media like Twitter and Facebook where "likes" are free, everything costs money on Hive. So there's some sense to why people are sticklers to details, but if you don't get that stick out of your ass, and just give people a place where they can relax and be at peace with themselves, whether wrong or right, we'll keep wallowing in the background.
This transcends free speech or censorship resistance, but I'm talking more about the general apathy shown towards anything that is "unhivish". We need to be more accomodating, and appreciative of both the right and wrong. Perhaps this will improve our chances of getting into the spotlight, and achieving our dream of going mainstream.
