Today my aunt send me a message, asking about progress with the case around Lily. We hadn't been close, actually hadn't spoken with each other for years before we all met at my uncle's place in Germany for Christmas. The kids that came into the family really changed dynamics to the better. Now, she's asking from time to time how we are. Like everyone else in Germany, she was genuinely shocked - not the Casablanca shocked, but really - that Lily's mom could and would do something like that. They all had their share of experiences, but the failure of law and order that reigns in South America was a tale, nothing as close as it is now.
They have many questions...
It's tedious to explain someone who has never lived here how things work (or don't). I rather send them articles I wrote here. Easier. Today, she told me that she was thinking about us a lot, but she didn't want to be all over us all the time, because she could imagine how tiresome it must be for me to repeat the same over and over again, and that she trusted that I would let everyone know if there was a change.
Trust and consideration.
I was incredibly thankful about that. I really am tired of people asking. Of explaining. Just yesterday, a Hive-Friend of mine who wasn't active for a while and apparently hadn't read my rants in the last 6 months asked about it. Although I'd like to read him in, it would just take too much time. Just as explaining the psychotic mind of Lily's mom to people.
It's complicated.
The easiest way out. Everything else feels like a waste of time, although it might not be. A case like mine could actually enrich people's chest of experiences, have them gain a perspective (okay, a few perspectives actually, as I always tell the story from at least 3 perspectives) and hence become more considerate.
Like my aunt.
I'm pretty sure she felt the pain in my voice the last time we spoke. The frustration. That empathy and consideration is something that I'm missing a lot these days, back from the days when I lived sheltered in my family. Many people here just want to know to have something to talk about. They offer no empathy, just platitudes driven by the egoistical lust for gossip.
Not that they realize that.
I'm sure most of those think that they're genuine. So I just smile and say it's complicated. I have those that I can talk to. Those who listen. Those who know me enough to just be there and say "what a fucking shit show" from time to time, letting me vent and encouraging me to keep the venting coming, although they've probably heard it already.
Because there are no news.
Just the same in different variations. At least I'm doing better. Something is something, right? Holding on to the little things, like that message from today and seeing some good in the world. There really is much good in my life these days. One big shadow, yes, but more like a huge tree, with light falling through the cracks the roof of summer leaves opening sporadically in the breeze. Just enough to keep the weed below in a good state.
I'm a weed.
