Each week the Ladies of Hive ask two questions for the LOH Community Contest. 
First question:
"Do you like to travel for the Christmas vacations or stay close to home? For both answers, please tell us why!"
In fact, I've never been on a vacation for Christmas in my life. It wouldn't even occur to me. Christmas for me is a time for family, a time to retreat, to recharge my batteries surrounded by those I love.
Maybe it would be different if I lived in another country. But we mostly have snow anyway and honestly? For us Austrians there are more beautiful seasons to go skiing ;-) not to be angry dear
I think it's totally nice when tourists come to the country and enjoy our mountains, I'm also proud that so many foreigners appreciate Austria as a winter holiday destination and love our country, but for me at least there are other weeks in the year, quieter weeks, where you have much more space to ski and that's just more fun.
Second question:
"What is your favorite food at Christmas time, and why?"
We don't always have the same thing at Christmas, but something that we do often for Christmas Dinner is:
Beef Tartare
Good raw beef is choped (ground meat) and seasoned. This we eat raw with toast. If you don't know it, you might be put off. Eating raw meat? Well, for dogs there are already feeding variants with BARF! ;-)
Of course, for Beef Tartare only fresh meat from a supplier you can trust is used. We would never take supermarket meat for it.
I love it, just because you eat it so rarely it is something very special.
Chocolate Rum Balls
Something I look forward to all year long are the legendary chocolate rum balls that my mom always makes. They are dark chocolate and taste just divine.
After all, she always has lots of different Christmas cookie tins that she keeps in her bedroom. Firstly because it's cooler there and secondly because then we can't get to the cookies so easily.
I have to laugh, she used to hide this one particular tin of chocolate balls and only brought them out at Christmas. Apparently my sister and I have become a little more restrained because lately she doesn't hide them anymore.
For a few years now we have been invited to dinner on the 24th at my sister's, who also lives here in the house. There is always something different to eat, but I look forward to it every time, especially because she takes so much trouble and sets the table so beautifully, I love it. Often it is not important what you eat, but with whom you eat it.
As I already said, this season of the year is through and through a family and staying home feast for me. Also in the times I lived in Bavaria, I went to Graz every year over Christmas and New Year's Eve to celebrate with family.

Erste Frage:
Verreist du in den Weihnachtsferien gerne oder bleibst du in der Nähe Deines Zuhauses? Bitte sag uns bei beiden Antworten, warum!
Tatsächlich war ich noch nie in meinem Leben zu Weihnachten im Urlaub. Es würde mir gar nicht in den Sinn kommen. Weihnachten ist für mich eine Zeit für Familie, eine Zeit des Rückzugs, des Energie Tankens im Kreise derer, die ich liebe.
Vielleicht wäre es anders, wenn ich in einem anderen Land leben würde. Aber Schnee haben wir zumeist ohnehin und ganz ehrlich?! Für uns Österreicher gibt es schönere Jahreszeiten um Skiurlaub zu machen ;-) nicht böse sein liebe
Ich finde es total schön, wenn Touristen ins Land kommen und unsere Berge genießen, ich bin auch stolz, dass so viele Ausländer Österreich als Winterurlaubsland schätzen und unser Land lieben, aber für mich zumindest gibt es andere Wochen im Jahr, ruhigere Wochen, wo man viel mehr Platz zum Skifahren hat und es einfach mehr Spaß macht.
Zweite Frage:
Was ist Dein Lieblingsessen in der Weihnachtszeit, und warum?
Es gibt bei uns nicht immer dasselbe zu Weihnachten, aber etwas, das es häufig gibt ist:
Beef Tartare
Gutes rohes Rindfleisch wird faschiert (Hackfleich) und gewürzt. Dieses essen wir dann roh mit Toast. Wer es nicht kennt, den wird es vielleicht abschrecken. Rohes Fleisch essen? Naja, für Hunde gibt es ja auch schon Fütterungsvariante mit BARF! ;-)
Natürlich wird für Beef Tartare nur frisches Fleisch von einem Lieferanten, dem man vertrauen kann verwendet. Niemals würden wir dafür Supermarkt Fleisch nehmen. Ich liebe es, gerade weil man es so selten isst ist es etwas ganz besonderes.
Schoko Rum Kugeln
Etwas worauf ich mich das ganze Jahr über freue sind die legendären Schokolade-Rum-Kugeln, die meine Mom immer macht. Sie sind mit dunkler Schokolade und schmecken einfach göttlich.
Sie hat ja immer jede Menge verschiedener Weihnachtskeks Dosen, die sie in ihrem Schlafzimmer verwahrt. Erstens weil es dort kühler ist und zweitens, weil wir dann nicht so leicht an die Kekse ran kommen.
Ich muss Lachen, früher hatte sie diese eine besondere Dose mit den Schokokugeln immer versteckt und erst zu Weihnachten hervorgeholt. Anscheinend sind meine Schwester und ich ein wenig zurückhaltender geworden, denn neuerdings versteckt sie sie nicht mehr.
Seit ein paar Jahren sind wir am 24. bei meiner Schwester, die ja auch hier im Haus lebt, zum Essen geladen. Da gibt es zwar immer etwas anderes zu essen, aber ich freue mich jedesmal darauf, vor allem, weil sie sich so viel Mühe gibt und den Tisch so schön deckt, ich liebe es. Oft ist es nicht wichtig, was man isst, sondern mit wem man es isst.
Wie gesagt, Weihnachten ist durch und durch ein Familien und Stay Home Fest für mich. Ich bin auch als ich noch in Bayern lebte jedes Jahr über die Weihnachts und Silvester Zeit nach Graz gefahren um mit der Familie zu feiern.
