( EN / DE ) Allerheiligen Kirche (translated means All Saints Church) is a very old gem on the outskirts of Graz. A foundation charter of Peter of Graden from June 29, 1423 confirms that the church is 600 years old.
Die Allerheiligen Kirche ist sehr altes Kleinod am Rande von Graz. Eine Stiftungsurkunde Peters von Graden vom 29. Juni 1423 bestätigt, dass die Kirche 600 Jahre alt ist.

On this South side there are two bridges to cross the creek, though I believe the path on this side ends at a private property. A path up into the forest is on the North/West side of the church.

There were (and are) rumors that a predecessor church had already stood on this site in the 8th century. However, archaeological excavations could not confirm this, only the Gothic foundation stone and altar from the 15th century were found and no evidence of older buildings on this site. In the 17th century there was a reconstruction with Baroque style. The last renovation took place at the beginning of our century.
Es gab (und gibt) Gerüchte, dass an dieser Stelle schon im 8. Jahrhundert eine Vorgänger Kirche gestanden hat. Archäologische Ausgrabungen konnten dies allerdings nicht bestätigen, es wurde nur der gotische Grundstein und Altar eben aus dem 15. Jahrhundert gefunden und keinerlei Hinweise auf ältere Bauten an dieser Stelle. im 17. Jahrhundert gab es einen Umbau mit Barocker Stilrichtung. Die letzte Renovierung gab es Anfang unseres Jahrhunderts.

Directly behind the main entrance of the church there was a spring, but unfortunately it was diverted because it caused great moisture problems for the structure. Too bad from my point of view, such a natural spring, that has something very special. But of course I understand that the masonry must be protected as much as possible. On the other hand, the small stream has almost no water for years anyway.
Direkt hinter dem Haupteingang der Kirche gab es eine Quelle, die aber leider umgeleitet wurde, da sie zu großen Feuchteproblemen für das Bauwerk führte. Schade aus meiner Sicht, so eine natürlich Quelle, das hat schon etwas ganz besonderes. Natürlich verstehe ich aber, dass das Mauerwerk so gut wie möglich geschützt werden muss. Andererseits führt der kleine Bach ohnehin seit Jahren fast kein Wasser mehr.

The North side, the actual access area is also so lovingly maintained, inviting with roses and other plants.
Die Nordseite, der eigentliche Zugangsbereich ist auch so liebevoll gepflegt, mit Rosen und anderen Pflanzen einladend gestaltet.

I love it when old buildings are renovated as original as possible. For example, this uneven wall, which is such an important element for the charm of the church. Or the mighty black wrought iron bars in front of the delicate fragile stained glass windows. A wonderful contrast that allows the light to flow in and provide views in and out.
Ich liebe es, wenn alte Gebäude so original wie möglich renoviert werden. So zum Beispiel diese unebene Mauer, die doch so ein wichtiges Element für den Charme der Kirche ist. Oder die mächtigen, schwarzen Schmiedeeisenen Gitterstäbe vor den zarten zerbrechlichen Kirchenfenster. Ein wundervoller Kontrast, der das Licht hinein fließen lässt und Ein- und Durchblicke gewährt.

And we already reached the end of the little tour around the Allerheiligen Kirche. I choose again the romantic path along the creek bed, a short look back up to the church and down the path to get back to our civilization. But the peace in my heart, which I could fill up there, I can take with me.
Und schon sind wir am Ende des kleinen Rundgangs um die Allerheiligen Kirche angelangt. Ich wähle wieder lieber den romantischen Pfad am Bachbett entlang, ein kurzer Blick zurück zur Kirche und schon geht es zurück in unsere Zivilasation. Die Ruhe im Herzen aber, die ich dort tanken konnte, die kann ich mitnehmen.
