I was walking at the lake this morning, it was early. Tendrils of mist still lingered over the water, dew clung to the leaves and the fresh air seemed laden with moisture left over from overnight rain. There were a few cars in the carpark but I saw no one else and heard nothing but the sounds of nature which, to me, is like music.

I left my headphones at home wanting to wander undisturbed by anything but natural sounds and as I walked I rejoiced in the moment and the silence that seemed to envelope me insulating me to the passage of time and anything but my own thoughts of being deeply within the moment. My mind found stillness and a silence that I only find when with nature.

Silence is an important sound to me; is silence a sound? I'm not sure.

I believe that silence is valuable to a humans mind, body and soul, that the ability to find silence within one's mind is a great skill, and I think that silence is a creator, or at least allows our minds to create. Our thoughts are born of the silence within our minds, a place where thoughts and feelings negate the need for words and a place where much of import is understood and decided upon; it's from that place, stillness and silence, where creativity begins and it's from creativity where life can take flight.
