Flowers make me happy and when looking at them, planting and tending them, smelling or touching them, I find deep satisfaction. They touch me emotionally I suppose I could say. It's the scent, colours, delicate petals and, I don't know, there's just something beautiful about flowers and nature in general.

It's said, the more regularly we see beautiful things the less visible they are to us, meaning we begin to take them for granted and maybe that's true with some things and some people but I never take flowers for granted - nature in general - flowers bring so much joy to my life.

I took this image of one of my lavender friends; several came home with me.

Last weekend I decided to find some new lavender with the intention of planting them in pots and placing around my little entertaining area; there's not much room there, but several well-placed lavenders will work. I want to bring some colour to the area but also beautiful fragrance and with so many varieties of lavender available it seemed a good option. I thought I'd also be able to cut some to bring inside extending the enjoyment.

I was so pleased to see this new variety at the plant nursery on Sunday; it's very pretty and the scent is divine.

It's called Lavish Rose and is bred to have many "wings" all the way down the flower head rather than just a few at the top. They're best in spring which is why I want to get them in now; when spring comes I'll be in lavender heaven. They will flower almost all year though, and that's ok with me. They like well-drained soil, a feed in spring and summer and a prune after flowering which is when I'll shape them a little too. At a height and girth of about 50cm they will be perfectly-sized for where I want to put them.

I didn't find the right pots for them Sunday, I want something with a little weight as they will be exposed to a little weather and it'd not do to have them fall over in a wind, but I'll have a look during the coming weekend and pot them out as well. It's exciting.

These little lavender friends and going to make me very happy and will also bring more friends to my garden, bees I mean; this is good for the little buzzy things, and other plants as well. I love bees, they're so cute. I'm looking forward to getting my Lavish Rose lavenders into place and to the beautiful scents they'll give off. Hurry up spring!
