Depression is a soul killer, it ridiculed human existence, and depression can turn the most lively person into a dummy. It can make a person lose everything in a twinkle of an eye, depression can turn you into who you ever dreamed of becoming.
Circumstances of life might draw one into depression but getting back on your feet after the fall is what makes one victorious. Breaking the silence of depression takes a lot of hard work and not everyone is lucky to get out of it, many lost their lives in the process.
I once witnessed a friend of mine run into depression when she lost her father to the cold hands of death. We were preparing for our school mock examination then against our WASSCE, she has been reading for a while and was fully ready for the examination because her father promised her a gift if she passed the examination.
Unfortunately, one afternoon after the lunch break, she was called and asked to come to the hospital after closing hours. We were all wondering what could be the cause of the emergency call, she became worried but we tried to calm her down as possible as we can. Immediately after we closed, she rushed to the hospital, and on getting there she met her father on the sick bed and immediately she became shattered.
In the long run, her father died and that became her worst nightmare. She couldn't concentrate on the examination anymore and she became depressed, she couldn't come to school for a long time, and we paid her regular visits just to console her and make her get back on her feet. She couldn't bring herself together because she was so close to her father, living without her father in her life made her living seems impossible.
She was unable to join us for the mock examination because she felt ill and was hospitalized. She attempted to commit suicide but was rescued on time, after her recovery, she was taken to another town to be able to recover fully and start a new life. Fighting through this hard time seems impossible to her because she wasn't expecting such a shock at that point in her life.
After lots of counselling, she was able to see reasons for her to live again and how happy her father would be if he was alive to see her succeeding in all her endeavors. She thought deeply and she decided to be the best she could be, today she is a nurse and she is doing well in her career.
In conclusion
Death is inevitable and it is an unforeseen circumstance that no one can guide against, all that can be done to come out of depression is to fight through and come out victorious.
