White shirts
Following on from my recent post showing some images I took last year of the two winners of an "EcoPageant" I thought I would post a couple more. This first image of both the two winners and the two runners up, is perhaps my favourite from the whole shoot. The ladies just smashed this and, although it is (obviously) posed I also think it sort of conveys just how comfortable they were in each others company.
Pageants aren't what they used to be. Long gone are the days when contenders would seemingly answer each question with "well I would like to see world peace" Now contestants have to prove their commitment, they raise money for charities, they promote ideological themes, they actually do, rather than ramble on about some idealised, utopian world, that will probably not exist for a few millennia.
Ell in ballgown
I could never be a judge in these competitions. All of the ladies I photographed were intelligent, witty, beautiful and had spent time over the previous year campaigning and acting on their chosen area within an ecological theme. Ell was a runner up, though how anyone could have selected from these four ladies is absolutely beyond me.
Mel in ballgown
Mel was one of the two winners, and because of taking one of the titles was to spend a year fund raising for the pageant, for her chosen Eco based charities and working to promote Eco awareness. Oh, plus she was to spend a couple of weeks abroad in the world finals (though somehow, to me at least, that sort of flies in the face of what they were trying to achieve. Can't be brilliant for their carbon footprint. But then I am a bit of a cynic. Lets just hope that whatever they did on their trip they were able to do enough good to offset the carbon footprint.
Candy in ballgown
Candy was the second runner up and spends her time in London and the Netherlands. She also has an MA in philosophy. She was so funny and had me in stitches whilst I was shooting her, and obviously the prankster of the group, Had I been a judge I think I really would have had some difficulty not selecting her, just because her bubbly personality, her love of life was totally infectious.
Maria in ballgown
The second winner was Maria. Maria is six foot tall in bare feet, so with heels on she towered over me, being a comparatively diminutive 5 foot 9. For some of the shots, I had to stand on a chair just to get a level face to face shot (as I sometimes feel that shooting upwards to a person isn't always the most flattering). Maria wears an almost permanent winning smile, which is beautiful to shoot. Again another intelligent, very eco aware young lady.

I have spoken to all of the ladies since this shoot and all seemed to be enjoying their time as queens and runners up. And appear to have done a lot of good. Well done ladies.
