Back in time
Firstly, I should perhaps apologise for the number of IBCC/Lancaster posts I've submitted. I realise it is almost bordering on spam, but I enjoy my visits to the place and I doubt I will ever tire of shooting the Lancaster.
Avro Lancaster
This weekend just gone, the IBCC - International Bomber Command Centre held its annual "1940s Weekend". This is an event that features lots of vintage vehicles, people in 1940s style costume - both civilian and military - 1940s music and lots of stalls selling either vintage or repro items and memorabilia.

I had met up at a friends house for a coffee and chat (and a play with their dogs), so only managed to get to the IBCC as everything was wrapping up on the Sunday. But still in time to catch the Lancaster performing a flypast.

I don't know what it is like in other countries, but these sort of events are very popular in the UK, and getting to be big business. People with vintage vehicles or memorabilia can make a lot of money travelling round these events, mostly during the summer months.

Authentic memorabilia sells for a premium these days, and as a lot of the attendees like to dress in period style, sellers have a "captive" market. From May (or even April), there doesn't seem to be a weekend where a 40s style event is not happening somewhere in the UK. Do other countries have the same nostalgic fascination? Or is it just us Brits, living and relishing (and yearning for) the good old days.
Heading home
Just as an aside and a parting comment, here in the UK we have so many antique TV shows where people buy antiques for profit, or have antiques valued, or experts vie to make the most profit from antiques. It seems to have become something of a national obsession..
