After being away from the canvas for a while, I finally made something again today.
Honestly, it feels a little strange to be back.
For a while, I stepped away and simply let things be. But maybe I needed that break. Sometimes we stop creating not because we've run out of ideas, but because we're trying to understand again why we started creating in the first place.
And somehow, this piece came out of that pause.
I called it The Guardian.
At first, I was simply imagining a figure sitting alone in the middle of something that felt unfamiliar. But the more I worked on it, the more the figure started to feel like something I didn't completely understand myself.
It sits quietly on a path that resembles a chessboard. Behind it are enormous hands, while a golden disc hangs above its head. Everything feels like it belongs to something much larger. I honestly don't know who, or what The Guardian is.
Maybe it's guarding a path, maybe it's waiting for someone, or maybe there's nothing it's actually guarding at all. Maybe we're the ones being watched.
That's the part I like about it.
There's something unsettling about looking at something we can't fully understand. It's not exactly a monster, and it doesn't necessarily feel evil. It's simply... something whose presence makes you feel small.
To accompany the artwork, I chose First Encounter from the Arrival soundtrack. There's something about that piece of music that feels strangely fitting here. Slow, unfamiliar, vast, and just a little uncomfortable, like standing in front of something you've never encountered before.
I don't want you to immediately know what you're looking at when you see this piece. I want there to be a little curiosity. A little uneasiness.
And maybe one small question in the back of your mind, “What exactly am I looking at?”
I've included all the images I used in creating this artwork below.
Thanks for stopping by, and I'll see you in my next post.
