Hello, fellow Hive Pets lovers! Today, I’d like to introduce you to one of the most special members of my furry family.
I’ve always believed that being the youngest among siblings comes with its own perks. We usually picture the baby of the family getting extra attention and a completely different level of spoiled treatment. That theory felt even more accurate when the youngest turned out to be the only male kitten in the litter.
Everyone, meet Loki, the youngest of five siblings.
Loki was born to Nancy, our mama cat who is known for being quite fierce. Truth be told, these five siblings actually came from two different mothers. But since they happened to be born on the exact same day, things got a bit chaotic and sweet. Sometimes, the other mother would nurse the kittens from the alternative litter, even though we tried separating them multiple times.
Nowadays, Nancy rarely spends time at our place, she prefers hanging out at my aunt’s house and only drops by occasionally when she misses home. Meanwhile, Loki and the rest of the gang grew up right here with us.
Being the one we (unconsciously) favored, my phone gallery quickly filled up with photos of Loki and his siblings. Compared to the other cats in the house, Loki’s childhood documentation easily takes the crown.
Look how cute he is. I honestly can’t recall exactly how many months old he was in this photo. But one thing is for sure, even as a tiny kitten, Loki was incredibly affectionate and stood out from the rest. While his siblings grew into wild, energetic, and highly active bundles of fur, Loki was always the calm, polite, and gentle one.
Time flew by, and they grew into playful teenagers. Since their energy levels were through the roof, I made it a morning ritual to take them out to play in the yard as soon as the morning sun hit.
Watching them run around the yard never failed to bring a smile to my face. Ah, looking back, I truly miss those times. At that age, they were just so full of passion and curiosity to learn about the world. Hunting bugs behind the leaves, rolling around in the grass, climbing trees, or just sitting side-by-side with me watching rain droplets hit the ground, we did it all together.
Those shared moments have now become sweet memories because today, they have grown into independent adult cats who mostly enjoy their own personal space.
Yet, no matter how much time passes or how big his body gets, my nickname for him remains unchanged, "Little Baby."
To this day, I still cradle him over my chest and treat him exactly like a newborn. I actually try doing the same thing to the other cats in the house, but they usually hate it and wiggle their way out immediately. Only Loki genuinely enjoys it, even though he is fully grown now.
I remember it so vividly, back then, Loki would fall fast asleep the moment I cradled him and gently stroked his nose. Seriously, he would pass out in a matter of seconds!
Unlike his fierce mother, Loki is the definition of a sweet soul. In all the time he has lived with me, I don't recall a single instance where he bit or scratched me. What stays etched in my mind is just how kind-hearted and obedient he has always been.
Nancy
Even though he's an adult now and doesn't instantly drift to sleep when I stroke his nose anymore, he still leans into it, showing just how much he still loves that familiar affection.
Just like any adult cat, Loki now spends the majority of his day sleeping inside. He has this unique "division of labor" with my other cat, Koi. While Koi is the active patroller who constantly roams around the perimeter of the house, Loki prefers to be the "final line of defense." He has zero interest in doing rounds, which is why you'll almost always find him chilling indoors.
However, don't let his relaxed demeanor fool you. The moment a stray cat dares to breach our yard, Loki is always the first to step up and chase them away to protect the others.
You could say Loki has naturally become the guardian and the "tribal chief" of our household cats. Everyone respects his authority, well, except for one. One of his sibling’s kittens is a total rebel, he is incredibly mischievous and always tries to pick a fight whenever Loki is around. Typical rebellious teenager phases, haha!
Even though time has changed his size, not much has changed about who he is inside. In my eyes, he is still the exact same gentle soul, my sweet little boy.
The photo above is the most recent one I took. He has grown so big and handsome, hasn't he? But no matter what, he will always be my eternal little baby.
Thank you so much for reading Loki's story, and I'll see you in the next posts about my other furry kids!
