Theres obvious advantages to taking certain, not lunatic, not serial rapist, etc, type inmates antd allowing them earn there way back into society by serving a 4+ year term in the military.
So why not make it optional?
Obvious Pro's:
jail population drops
costly support of jail drops
gov't gets more help, with less $$$ spent finding the help
our military gains strength at a faster pace
Obvious Cons:
Cons.
I'd love to know why the Gov't cant seem to find a way to implement some sort of a program for certain inmates?.... especially since we make special programs on the spot for refugees.
