In my city I can easily find the next bus for my location by calling, or by having Tasker or another scripting tool query the API.

For instance, http://realtime.lextran.com/InfoPoint/departures.aspx?stopid=5013

Gives me the next stops at my local Grocery store so I now if I need to hurry up shopping or if I can take my time

What I do is set up a location announcement via Tasker that checks the next bus whenever I am near a stop that I have used before. Using voice to speech I have it announce the stop between songs in my playlist. But someone just asked me if other cities have such a service,

So if you have a API for bus travel in your town, do you use it?
