A Trip to Macy's

For the 10 people who ever read my blog (wink wink!), this is probably not a title you expect! But there you go, life is full of surprises. It is very hot in Houston right now, and this time of the year, when we are in town I 'hibernate'. My older daughter is getting all the bad habits from me. Her school is almost ended for the year, and long summer vacation (100 days) are imminent. Lot of her friends are away this weekend, so she was feeling lazy.

Although she mentioned that she is not lazy, rather she is on "energy saving mode" :) However, towards the evening, she was bored enough that she was willing to go outside. I said, that I am sick and tired of my usual perfumes that I use (which are a bit heavy) and so I was looking for a light fragrance. I offered that I can take her to Houston Galleria Macy's (some of the last Macy's store which remains) and she can choose a summer perfume for me. She reluctantly agreed! If you know that teenages come early here, you will probably know what I mean. Off we went to Macy's.

I am no fragrance expert, but I do enjoy a good perfume. I am no collector, I but whatever I feel like. Typically over Christmas only, as that was bit of a family tradition that my wife and I go and buy perfume for each other before Christmas. Trouble is that, by default I accumulate lots of fall and winter perfumes. So they are often a bit heavy for summer use. I also do not enjoy 'aqua' type fragrances much. Please don't get me wrong, ACQUA DI GIÒ by Armani is a great perfume, its just not for me. I tend to like earthy, spicey notes better. So when we got to Macy's with my daughter, I gravitated towards Victor and Rolf Spice Bomb section. Since I am not that familiar, looks like they now have five different varieties. I have only used the original (the clear bottle in the picture above), and that's a beautiful fall fragrance that can be used all year.

After a bit of testing all five, I didn't really have a winner (other than the original, which I was not planning to buy, its probably one of the best winter fragrance!). My daughter selected the Night Vision EDT. This one is a 2019 edition, and less popular that their 2020 EDP edition. However NV is a fresh citrus, bright scenet, which is what I was looking for. I can clearly smell the green apple and grapefruit citrus top notes and woody base. It is darker than any usual summer perfume, which I like. I have used it in the evening yesterday for a hourse warming party that my wife and I were invited, and I thought we went well. I will need to use it a bit more for a few day to form a better opinion, but it is certainly not like something I already have. It comes in a nice box box set: a 3.04 oz (90 ml) and a 0.68 oz (20 ml) travel set. It is currently priced at $125 for the box set. It is a very nice gift set for Father's Day, if you are interested!
