Apple’s iPhone battery replacement programme, which lets you replace your clapped-out iPhone battery for the cut-price of £25, is now in full swing in the UK.

And with 11 months to go before the scheme ends, there’s still plenty of time for you to take advantage and bring a new lease of life to your iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.

Thinking about taking up Apple on its battery replacement offer? Here's how it works and everything else you need to know.

But before you do so, make sure you follow these simple rules to get your new power pack quickly and ensure that your iPhone keeps ticking once the battery's been installed.

Battery stocks are limited. So call ahead
Although Apple will let you book an appointment online to have your battery replaced in your local store, often on the same day, there are no guarantees they will have the right battery for your phone in stock when you actually get there.

So, before you head out or even make the appointment, call ahead and speak with an adviser at the Apple Store branch you're planning to visit, who’ll be able to order a battery in for you.

That way you can go to your nearest Apple store once the part is delivered and have it fitted right away.

Be patient. You may be waiting a while
Apple says that owners of older iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s models may have to wait as long as two weeks until they can get a new battery.

So you’ll need to sit tight and keep your charger handy for a few days.

That being said, when we got ours replaced for our review of Apple's scheme, we found that Apple had a battery ready within six days of our first contact, so times do vary.

Demand is sky high, especially as the programme has only just got underway. So, it’s likely that wait times will get longer.

Keep an eye out for online reservations
At the moment, you can’t reserve a new battery for your iPhone online.

However, that looks set to change, with Apple trialling a new system in Canada where users can input their details and wait for a message regarding availability.

It’s likely that this will soon be available here in the UK.

Back–up your iPhone
This is absolutely essential. Although it’s unlikely that Apple will erase any of your content while replacing your battery, it’s not worth taking the risk.

Backing up your iPhone is easy. Simply plug your iPhone into a PC or Mac and save the data and apps stored on it by using iTunes. Or use iCloud to back up everything on Apple’s servers.

To check everything is stashed there, just open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name at the top of the screen and then iCloud.

A status bar will show you how much data is backed up, with a breakdown of apps that are using Apple’s cloud service.

Check Find My iPhone when you get your phone back
The Find My iPhone feature may be disabled when you get your iPhone back from Apple.

To re–enable it, simply open the app and sign in using your Apple ID.
