Hello everybody! I come back here to tell you a part of my trip to Galicia, a community in the northeast of Spain (very close to Portugal) with a rich and cheap gastronomy, beautiful landscapes, quite Celtic culture, and above all known because it is the end of the Camino Jacobeo, which starts from the city of Santiago de Compostela (where the Camino de Santiago ends).
隆Hola a todos! Vuelvo por aqu铆 para contaros una parte de mi viaje a Galicia, una comunidad en el noreste de Espa帽a (muy cerca de Portugal) con una rica y barata gastronom铆a, hermosos paisajes, cultura bastante celta, y sobre todo conocida porque es el final del camino jacobeo, que empieza desde la ciudad de Santiago de Compostela (donde termina el camino de Santiago).
In my case, I "cheated" because I didn't walk. I went to the bus station in Santiago de Compostela and took a bus to go to Finisterre (or "Fisterra", which is its original name in Galician, the dialect spoken in this land). There, it was a bit confusing to know at what time the bus left to get to this place because the signs were not very clear, and the staff at the counter was not very helpful either, they were not very nice to say the least.
In the end I was able to find out the time and bought the ticket. An Irish guy was just as confused as I was at the station, but he was in a worse situation: he didn't speak Spanish, and the station staff didn't speak English. Fortunately I was able to guide him to buy his bus ticket. The guy was very happy to find someone who spoke English, and we spent some time chatting about how he had done the Camino de Santiago starting from France.
En mi caso, hice "trampa" porque no fui caminando. Fui a la estaci贸n de autobuses de Santiago de Compostela y cog铆 un autob煤s para ir hasta Finisterre (o "Fisterra", que es su nombre original en gallego, el dialecto que se habla en esta tierra). All铆, fue un poco confuso saber a qu茅 hora sal铆a el bus para llegar a este lugar pues los carteles no estaban muy claros, y el personal del mostrador tampoco ayudaba mucho, no eran muy simp谩ticos que digamos.
Al final pude averiguar la hora y compr茅 el ticket. Un chico irland茅s estaba igual de confuso que yo en la estaci贸n, pero 茅l estaba en una peor situaci贸n: No hablaba espa帽ol, y el personal de la estaci贸n no hablaba ingl茅s. Afortunadamente pude guiarle para comprar su ticket de bus. El chico se alegr贸 mucho de encontrar a alguien que hablase en ingl茅s y estuvimos un rato charlando sobre c贸mo hab铆a hecho el camino de Santiago empezando desde Francia.
I admired the people who could have such long vacations as to make that way with a heavy backpack on their backs, as pilgrims, and not falter in the attempt or end up with a blister on their feet. No doubt I might try it someday, but this time I didn't have enough time and I wanted to walk more of this region.
Admiraba a la gente que pod铆a tener vacaciones tan largas como para hacer ese camino con una pesada mochila a la espalda, de peregrinos, y no flaquear en el intento ni acabar con una ampolla en sus pies. Sin duda, quiz谩s alg煤n d铆a lo intente, pero en esta ocasi贸n no ten铆a suficiente tiempo y quer铆a recorrer m谩s lugares de esta regi贸n.
I arrived in just under 3 hours, and headed to the hotel to check in and drop off my things. I stayed at the Hotel Ancora. I leave photos of the view from my room and the teapot with the little things they left for me.
Llegu茅 en poco menos de 3h, y me dirig铆 al hotel a hacer el check-in y dejar las cosas. Me aloj茅 en el Hotel 脕ncora. Dejo fotos de las vistas de mi habitaci贸n y de la tetera con las cosillas que dejaron para m铆.
I drank an infusion and got ready to walk to the lighthouse, where the road ended and I could admire the so-called "Costa da Morte". This place where I was, Fisterra, is magical because in ancient times in the Greco-Roman era, when it was believed that the earth was flat, and this was the end of the earth. Because here the sun was seen to die, and be reborn again.
In fact, it is said that it was believed that the end of this road was the border between life and death.
Me tom茅 una infusi贸n y me prepar茅 para caminar hasta el faro, donde se acababa el camino y podr铆a admirar la llamada "Costa da Morte". Este lugar donde me encontraba, Fisterra, es m谩gico porque antiguamente en la 茅poca grecoromana, cuando se cre铆a que la tierra era plana, y este era el final de la tierra. Porque aqu铆 se ve铆a al sol morir, y volver a renacer.
De hecho, se dice que se cre铆a que el final de este camino era la frontera entre la vida y la muerte.
I started my walk of about 45 minutes, 3 km was what separated me from the hotel to the lighthouse, but along the way I stopped to take pictures of the landscape and some church I found.
Emprend铆 mi caminata de 45 minutos aproximadamente, 3 km era lo que me separaba desde el hotel hasta el faro, pero por el camino me fui deteniendo para tomar fotos del paisaje y de alguna iglesia que encontr茅.
The road was flat, but you had to travel on a narrow dirt road just off the highway. Where there were also more people walking in front of you or coming back, so you had to almost walk in line
El camino era llano, pero ten铆as que recorrerlo en un estrecho camino de tierra justo al lado de la carretera. Donde tambi茅n hab铆a m谩s personas caminando delante de ti o volviendo, por lo que hab铆a casi que ir en fila
I stopped and asked someone to take a picture of me with the pilgrim statue.
Me detuve y le ped铆 a alguien que me hiciera una foto con la estatua del peregrino.
The crosses are marking the way. This one in particular was on a rock, to which I leaned out carefully so as not to slip forward, in order to take the photo.
Las cruces van se帽alizando el camino. Esta en concreto estaba sobre una roca, a la cual me asom茅 con cuidado de no resbalar hacia delante, para poder tomar la foto.
The lighthouse was already in front of me, so I continued to advance towards it.
Ya ten铆a ante m铆 el faro, as铆 que continu茅 avanzando hasta 茅l.
There was a restaurant next to the lighthouse.
Hab铆a un restaurante a un lado del faro.

And after this, it was time to turn back, but in order not to go back the same way, I wanted to go back around and look for a beach where I could swim. But I'll tell you about that in the next post 馃槃.
