Judas Priest Unleashes New Single 'Trial by Fire'
Metal legends Judas Priest have unleashed their latest single, "Trial by Fire," offering fans another glimpse into their upcoming album, Invincible Shield. Following closely on the heels of the lead single, "Panic Attack," the new track showcases the band's enduring power and signature style.
"Trial by Fire" takes a different approach from the high-energy punch of "Panic Attack," opting for a more restrained pace that builds tension throughout. Frontman Rob Halford's vocals narrate a tale of wrongful accusations, with lyrics like "Bound and abused / Branded a liar / I have endured / Trial by fire."
Invincible Shield, set to drop on March 8, marks Judas Priest's 19th studio album and their first since 2018's Firepower. The band initially contemplated making Firepower their farewell album but was inspired to continue due to its positive reception.
Reflecting on the decision, Halford mentioned, "[Firepower] was so well-received and critically acclaimed. It was kind of like, 'Is that it? Should we leave it there? Should we leave the party now?' But that record, along with the reception from our friends and in the industry, gave us even more energy and more determination to make another Priest album."
Guitarist Richie Faulkner teased that Invincible Shield would feature more intricate tunes reminiscent of the band's '70s work, promising a departure from the conventional song structures. He hinted at a more progressive approach, drawing inspiration from tracks like "Sinner" or "Tyrant," evoking the spirit of '70s Priest that fans can anticipate with excitement.
