Post Malone, the renowned artist, made a special appearance at NPR’s offices this week for his debut on the Tiny Desk Concert series. He was there to showcase his latest album, Austin.
During the performance, Posty's voice seemed a bit worn out, which he attributed to the strain of his ongoing tour. He humorously mentioned feeling nervous about the web series performance and quipped, “I’m on tour, and my voice is ‘balls’ right now, so I appreciate you guys listening and putting up with that.”
The rock star kicked off with “Sunflower,” his chart-topping hit from 2019 for the Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack. With the accompaniment of a string quartet and backup singers, he transformed his 2017 single “I Fall Apart” into a heartfelt, folksy ballad.
“You guys f–king rock, thank you for being nice to me,” Post shared midway through the set.
He then went on to perform “Circles,” which dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in 2019-20, and closed with “Enough Is Enough,” a track from his album Austin released on July 28. Both songs received a rootsy, full-band acoustic rendition, with Post playing the acoustic guitar throughout the concert.
After the performance, he admitted, “I’m sweating my a– off. This is like a dream for me.”
Austin debuted last week at the top of the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart and the Top Alternative Albums chart. It also secured the second spot on the Billboard 200 in its opening week. Alongside his busy tour schedule, Post has been actively promoting the record, making appearances on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show and Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.
