An afternoon of white skies, clouds threatening everywhere I looked and small drops falling from time to time.
What better walk on such a day than a museum, there is nothing better.
I knew that the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo was bringing new temporary exhibitions and I ventured with my friend to the place, as she had never been there before and wanted to see it.
When we arrived at the place, at the main entrance door we found a sign saying that the door was temporarily closed and that to enter the museum we had to go in from the right side door.
Well, no problem, we just had to go around the corner and enter.
When we didn't, we saw that part of the museum was cancelled or closed. We never knew why, perhaps because of some renovation, and I said to myself: I'll miss the new exhibitions.
And so it was, but to my surprise they had changed a good part of the permanent exhibition, so I was able to enjoy new art, much of which caught my attention.
The first thing that surprised me and that I spent a long time looking at was a sculpture of a dress made of metal. It was impressive to see the folds of the sleeves, the finish and how well it was made as if it had been made from a mould of a dress, but put on a woman. It was amazing.
My friend is a dressmaker and we joked that she would look pretty in that dress. But she told me that maybe it was a bit long and that I should have to cut it down a bit.
Although I had seen this work before I had not noticed it so much, they are balloons, yes, but glass balloons and that is beautiful, the shine they have and being made of that material they are in that place to keep the reflection of each person who admires them. I love that.
For example, these men in this kind of prison up there, they can't relax, I wonder what they're doing up there... mere spectators of what's going on at ground level.
In these unique paintings, we tried to see shapes, like a deer, bulls, camels, geese, above all we saw animals. With my friend we tried to guess what the painter wanted to do. It was nice to do that exercise.
In this case we have a person who at different stages of his life took a photo card, it's a good way of seeing the passage of time, very original.
This is one of the paintings that caught my attention, a beauty. It is made with anilines and pigments on canvas and is called Fotogramas, made by the artist Gloria Lomas. Her gaze is beautiful, those eyes enchanted me.
The museum is very big so we saw works here and there.
In this case, when I looked at this painting I saw many Egyptian forms, which I love, as Egyptian culture fascinates me. The realisation of the animals on this canvas was excellent, especially the cats. They were revered in Egypt as a source of fertility.
The scarabs were the ones that represented the soul of the people, when someone was mummified a scarab figure was placed in the place of the heart to guide the soul to the other plane. I am passionate about and have studied a lot about this culture.
The variety of paintings that seemed to have nothing to do with each other was contrasting. In this case I saw a lot of people doing sport, well in the museum I couldn't run, but they could.
In this case we have a painting made with ink and acrylic on paper and it reminded me of those labyrinth games where you have to draw a line with a pencil that starts at one end and you can get out of the labyrinth with a single line. That came to my mind at that moment.
In this case I was struck by the contrast and the strong colours, in contrast to the dark background. Where will that little house lead to... to the infinite void?
I stared attentively at this black and white painting, a man looking out, perhaps at a window with a serene but at the same time empty gaze, and then I saw that there was a mirror... the man is not reflected, interesting isn't it?
These two collages are made with photographic paper and oil on canvas, when you look at them you realise that it is photography and painting, but from a distance there is not much difference.
The peace and calm reflected in faces that are very well done. These sculptures were very good, I wanted to look at them from different points of view and I really liked them a lot.
I really like the art where faces are painted and in this case with different techniques, did the expressions of the faces make someone look at them and say... what are they thinking?
The variety, as I said of works, was amazing, from very crazy photographs that caught the eye, to paintings with symbolism of old paintings. Also abstract art such as black and white photography where some object was emphasised by giving it colour.
In one corner I could see two screens showing video art, a performance by a man and a woman.
This painting made with various techniques where the sky is a writing is very original, from the colours they used to the subject matter.
One painting was striking, not because of what was painted on it but because from a distance we could be sure it was a photograph and when we got very close we could see the brushstrokes.
It represented an old photograph like the ones many of us have of our relatives, grandparents or maybe even further back.
With my friend we already created a story to this painting, we started to fantasize why the woman was so happy and the others were looking for something. Many works of art produce this effect, inventing from a single shot.
Two works are very striking. The first one is made of polyester resin with bronze powder and has a particular texture, its relief and volume are great.
The second is a silkscreen print on copper. What is most beautiful is that you can find works of art made with different materials, textures, and that makes the museum very enriching.
In an almost hidden place, we could see this big crystal ball, which, depending on the light that focused on it and the position in which I was standing, reflected different flashes of colour.
Finally, as we headed for the exit we found art in photographs as arranged in sequences as a person enters a lagoon or lake. Very beautiful.
It was a very pleasant walk, despite the grey day, the place was full of colour, textures, objects, materials and even a dress.
It is always satisfying for me to visit a museum, I learn and delight in the vast amount of works of art.
Thank you all for watching and reading this far, and joining me on this Wednesday walk.
A big hello to all and until next time.
Amonet.
All photographs are my own.
