"Freedom is not merely a privilege to be granted; it is a habit to be acquired."
-David Lloyd George
Often experiences unconsciously create and ingrain habits that are not good at all. And often you don't know how to get rid of them.
You become aware that it shouldn't be like that, but you don't know how to remedy it, because what you learnt in childhood sticks with you.
For many years I was very attached to material things, but don't misunderstand me, not to valuable things, but to things in general. The great experience of scarcity that I had since I was a child made me cling to even a simple possession and I didn't want to let go of it.
The attachment was very strong, I suppose it was the fear of not having it later if I got rid of it.
With time and searching for answers I learned that it works exactly the other way around.
The more I attach the less I have, because it is a message I give to the universe of lack of scarcity. Because I attach because of fear and fear attracts what we fear. This applies to all circumstances.
It is difficult to remove from a person something so ingrained when it is learned from childhood. But I had to find a way to do it. I like to improve and better myself and that was something that was affecting me.
When my family decided to leave the country and move to Spain, it was a very strong internal blow. If I remember it now I can relive that blow, but I don't suffer it any more.
Throwing things away... donating things... letting go, that was the big process and I knew that it would change me forever and I decided to do it of my own free will.
I donated most of my things to a psychologist who helped children and teenagers in recovery from drugs and other addictions and problems.
I summed up my 40 years of life in two suitcases, and one of them didn't exactly carry positions but travel stuff.
Today I am free of all that and I think differently, if I don't use it or don't need it, why do I have it?
Today I live a lighter life and it is very pleasant. However, I will take nothing with me from this world, only my experiences and memories, that is the most important thing. Today I look with different eyes and think with a different conscience.
