Consumer to Creator

To simply put, hive gave value to my online world, before i was just a consumer of the endless void that was the internet, never really getting anything meaningful in return apart from the “entertainment” the internet provided which were actually distractions if you deep it. I liked things out of habit rather than genuine appreciation. I consumed a hundred posts a day, i think 2go or blackberry messenger were my first social platforms, then i moved on to twitter and then facebook etc. All these had their pros and cons and i wont discountenance with them, because im now on hive platform because whether i want to admit it or not, i learned alot from these platforms which i can say categorically has helped me transition more seamlessly to the hive/ecency platform or chain
The biggest shift for me is the sheer volume of writing I do. On traditional social platforms, there was never really a reason to write anything longer than a caption or a comment. For me hive flipped that. Suddenly there was a place built for actual thoughts and reflections, stories, even something as simple as a video from a trip turned into a few paragraphs of memory. Once I had a space that rewarded effort instead of just noise, I started showing up for it. The more I wrote, the easier it got, and the easier it got, the more I wanted to write and it helped me articulate myself much better.
Ecency also changed how I engage with information. When you know your words are going on a public and a permanent ledger, you think twice before posting something half baked, at least for me. I started fact checking myself before publishing and it It bled into how I read and assimilated information because i like to read articles, their are groups here that talk about real life situations and not just words thrown to generate clicks and likes.
For me being better at writing has been the most rewarding part. Writing regularly, for real readers, with real (if small) stakes attached, has sharpened my writing in a way that no amount of casual scrolling ever could. I've gotten better at structuring an idea, at trimming a sentence down until it says what I mean, at knowing when a paragraph should end. Even with punctuations and all.
I mean as i said i still consume content, obviously. I still scroll through things that have absolutely no business taking up my time. I still get distracted by random videos and spend far longer than I intended looking at things that I will probably forget five minutes later. Hive did not magically turn me into the most productive person on the internet. But it gave me another side of the internet that I did not really know existed, it gave me a side that i could have value in exchange for my time
