The human mind always wants to label stuff. This is good, this is bad, this is up this is down. Of course, there are logical reasons for this, but on a long enough timeline who is to say what good and bad events really are in your life. Say that you meet a person and that person represents a painful experience to you, well that experience can break you or make you stronger.
That then makes you better, so yes it was "bad" but of course, it really was not. Everyone also makes a big deal out of having a meaning in life. Well, that's all good to have and everyone wants it, but how about just existing. Existing because you want to and because life itself is purposeful in and of itself. If you can look at life from this vantage point you don't really need a purpose, because everything has a purpose and you are just built into that when you are doing things that are in tune with your spiritual self.
Of course, if you are out there raping and pillaging you won't feel in the right frame of mind, but a purist mindset who just wants to exist for existence sake could let you avoid the whole trap of; what do I mean as an individual. Maybe we mean something, maybe we don't. But if we don't stop to embrace existence what would it matter anyway. A simple mind is a happy mind and this is why some people who may be deemed less intelligent are some of the happiest. They are just in the natural flow of life and don't stop to contemplate all the craziness.
They just go with the Dao and do what they do. Life can work both ways. Intelligence is only good as so far as it allows you to complete your spiritual quest. Sadly it can also turn against you and prevent you from really understanding due to its need for everything to fit in some form of a box. Reality is mystical, it doesn't all fit in a box, you just have to roll with it.
