Hello everyone, this is my post for the Splinterlands Weekly Challenge.
The topic of the week is the Briar Patch, let's get into it:
Briar Patch:
All Monsters have the Thorns ability.
When hit with a Melee attack, does damage back to the attacker.
Details:
Deals a MAX of 2 damage to the attacker, unless Amplify is active, in which case a MAX of 3 damage is dealt.
The Heal and Triage ability will restore some HP to the Melee monsters that were damaged.
Reflection Shield: The Monster is not affected by the Thorns.
Shield: Reduces Thorns damage by -1.
Thorns affect Armor first before Health.
Probably with this ruleset most monsters will be Magic and Ranged, so cards with Silence, Headwinds, Magic Reflect and/or Return Fire would be great.
Curiosities:
At the moment the only summoner that gives the Thorns ability is:
There are many monsters that have the Thorns ability on their own:
Fire:
Water:
Earth:
Life:
Death:
Dragon:

This battle the following rulesets are active:
Briar Patch:
All Monsters have the Thorns ability.
Reverse Speed: __
Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
Team Line- up
Summoner
Ability
+1 Magic Attack
Alric Stormbringer. Since Thorns ability is active, I decided to use Magic monsters and this summoner which will increase my magic monsters' attack by +1.
Monsters:
Abilities:
Void
Djinn Oshannus. My opponent probably also wanted to use Magic monsters, that's why I chose Oshannus in the frontline who has Void ability ( also 10 HP) and will take reduced damage from Magic attacks.
Flying and Life Leech
Runemancer Kye, cost 11 mana, but has decent HP (8), 5 armor, and also its Leech ability will increase its HP each time it attacks in proportion to the damage dealt.
None
Nerissa Tridawn. Although it doesn't have any abilities, this card deals 3 damage (+1 thanks to Alric) and will deal a lot of damage to enemies.
Protect
Venari Wavesmith. In case the opponent wanted to use some ranged monsters, Wavesmith will protect my monsters with +2 armor.
Blast
Riverboat Captain. One of the new soulbound reward cards, it not only deals 2 (3)damage, but also has the Blast ability that deals damage to adjacent monsters this monster attacks.
Blast
Ruler of the Seas, in the last position, another monster with the Blast ability that with the help of the Captain will do a lot of damage to the monsters in the backline.
Battlefield
My monsters gain +1 Magic Attack thanks to Alric Stormbringer. Venari Wavesmith protects my monsters with its ability with +2 Armor.
Enemy summoner: Lir Deepswimmer, gives +2 Armor and Return Fire ability to its allies.
Round 1
-Near the end of the round Runemancer Kye destroys Lord Arianthus and gains +1 HP.
-All of my backline monsters were damaged due to Arianthus being on the frontline, whose Magic Reflect ability returns reduced damage to those who attack it.
-Riverboat Captain and Ruler of the Seas were affected the most because their Blast ability also damaged Lobstradamus (who was in second position), who also has Magic Reflect.
-Oshannus took a lot of damage but survived at least for this round with 1HP.
Round 2
-Starting the round Cyclops destroys Djinn Oshannus.
-Riverboat Captain falls with its own attack, because it attacked Lobstradamus who returned the attack.
-Venari Wavesmith, avenged the Captain's death by eliminating Lobstradamus.
-My Nerissa defeats Cyclops, who was previously damaged by the Captain.
Round 3
-My Nerissa begins the attack by destroying the evil enemy Nerissa.
-Next to fall on the opponent's side is Swamp Spitter, who was damaged by Runemancer Kye (gains 2 HP).
Round 4
-Finally, with Poseidon being the only enemy left, Nerissa ends the battle by destroying him with her powerful attack.
Due to the Briar Patch ruleset, neither my opponent nor I used melee monsters in this battle.
This time the opponent's lineup was very defensive, he use the summoner Lir Deepswimmer, also 3 monsters with the Shield ability in the first positions that are very good against ranged attacks but luckily I only used magic monsters and Alric, who gives my monsters +1 Magic attack, allowing them to do a lot of damage. Although 2 of the enemy monsters have Void and Magic Reflect ability, it wasn't enough to stop my monsters from winning the battle.
