Hello folks! On Monday, I ended my vegan challenge as it approached the second week where I avoid anything that had traces of animal by-products: meat and dairy. Though the challenge has concluded with a great finale meal of vegetarian curry, but I am not going to talk about the spicy heaven on a plate, but instead my perspective and thoughts about this experience and experiment.

As a diet, I actually enjoyed it. When growing up I never bothered with vegetables at all except the occasional celery with peanut butter, lettuce, tomatoes, or carrots. Otherwise, I just did not bothered. Nowadays, thanks to my wife, I enjoy vegetables to the point I wanted to see if I could just eat vegetables. Now that I did, I can imagine going further, but to her dismay htrpka2019@htrpka2019 did not want to continue unless I was cooking which with my skills I can not. Again, if I wanted to, I would continue doing this diet.

Through these two weeks my body went through some changes. Granted, there was a few false alarms like my sore legs from my earlier posts. It was my digestive system that I noticed the changes. This diet felt as though it was cleaning it up, like one big detoxification. It was a bit weird, but it felt good. Thanks to the Steemit community, I was given suggestions on alternatives with my daily needs like calcium and other nutrients.

It did got me thinking, and that I feel that those that did pursue this lifestyle did not do it just for the dietary habit, but instead as a movement. I can understand as animals, ready to be butchered for everyone’s dinner plate, are treated poorly in these corporate farms. Living harshly in crowded spaces with just enough food to get them by, and then injected with chemicals such as arsenic to make sure food would inflate. It is one reason I do not go with anything that comes from the Tyson brand of chicken products, and do not get me started with how some companies treats male chicklets.

Sadly, there are vegan products, like ready-made foods, that cost more than their “for everyone” counter-parts, but I believe the consumer just need a bit more cook-savvy. Cooking and preparing your own foods with the proper ingredients will not only allow you to know what you are putting in your mouth, cut costs, but give you the satisfaction that you made your own dishes by yourself at the fraction of the cost at a restaurant.

Granted, that goes with just ANY diet either keto, protein, or just give me anything diet. No, I am not encouraging people to go subscribe to Blue Apron or any similar services as I feel those are just as ridiculous if not more than restaurant prices where you still need to pay for preparation. Just buy what you need, and you can make more food for later time. Sorry, I am rambling a little. :)

I will like to thank the Steemit community for cheering me on, and keeping up with my journal with my vegan challenge. Please leave a comment on what you think of my thought piece.

Have a nice day!
