Mobile phone cameras are nothing now like what it use to be 5 years back, companies are trying to put as many camera features as they can in their mobile devices. Earlier mobile cameras use to be basic just point and shoot cameras. no zoom, no switching camera sensors, no optical zooms etc etc. but now cameras are working overtime to give us the best sensor, 5x - 10x optical zoom, better software processing and now they are providing us with a dedicated Macro sensor in these camera systems.
As a nature enthusiast we go to the outdoors and observe the beautiful nature around, sometimes the observation is assisted with photography. For photography of course a camera is important, but buying an expensive camera equipment is not a good investment for everyone.
But Mobile phones are in every pocket, and mobiles can be great in assisting documentation of smaller wildlife around us. I have been conducting sessions on macro photography using our phones with school kids and general public. It is important to understand that we should not associate photography with expensive gear.
Camera companies are pushing the narrative that their cameras are the best for wildlife, for portraits etc. But to understand photography it is important to first understand the game. We should all explore the cameras of our phones first.
There is a learning curve with mobile photography, first we have to understand our subject we are clicking. Observation skills comes in very handy to find beautiful subjects around us. Go out to your local park and try to find spiders and insects.
Now wait there to observe their movement and how they react to your presence. When you are comfortable with your subjects, try to place yourself in a way that you get closer to the subject and use your phone to document it.
So, if you enjoy smaller wildlife around or if you love capturing the flowers, your best friend and companion is your mobile camera. You can do so so much with the camera, all you need to do is go out and explore the new world of insects and spiders.... click it with your phone and share with us.
