My journey started from Delhi where i live with a friend for Ladakh in the scorching heat of June 2025. We were driving to Ladakh in his car. We were aware that this is going to be a very long and tiring trip, but the excitement was overpowering the thoughts of getting tired. Excitement of gorgeous landscapes at an altitude not fit for people living in Delhi. It took us 2 days to reach Ladakh, crossing high altitudes, driving through the snake like roads, feeling the gradual increase of chillness in winds.
to reach Ladakh we crossed the green valleys of Himachal Pradesh, and suddenly after reaching a certain altitude we we witnessed the dryness of weather with very low vegetation, almost non existent.
Reached Ladakh after two days of continuous travel, and yes you could feel the high altitude while you breathe. City of Leh is situated at an altitude of 11,500 Feet (3500 meters).
Because of the height and the dryness Ladakh becomes a high altitude desert. It is a desert but still you can find some vegetation in villages and around.
it is always advised by the doctors to not do any physical activity after reaching there because of the altitude people can feel uncomfortable and in some cases it can be lethal for people. Some may also complaint about heavy head and nausea.
Next day when we were advised to keep things slow and acclimatize to the altitude, we visited the most beautiful palace which overlooks the whole city. I am talking about Leh Palace.
A 9 story palace built in the 17th Century by King Sengge Namgyal, it was the royal residence of the Namgyal Dynasty. Imagine how they managed to build such an intricate structure at the time when modern tech was not available. Hard labor and pure determination.
I need to share this beautiful thing about the prayer flags. These colorful flags are meant to spread the prayers along with the winds blowing and it is very windy there always.
By the way there is a gorgeous market right in the center of the city.
There are loads of awesome places to have tasty food. If you are visiting Leh i would strongly suggest you to try momos.
