Here we go. My last job was that of a Personal Assistant, I was working for a construction company and the role was quite demanding because it was my first time working for a construction company not only that, working as a Personal Assistant too. Initially when I applied for the job, it was the role of a Supervisor I applied for and that was the position I was given at the beginning. And before I got the job, during my interview I made them to know how capable I was in handling that position. I was supervising the whole staff under my watch, ensuring things were done as needed and you know how it can be when a Woman is the head, in charge or in control, in a construction company for that matter, where almost the entire staff are Men. It was a tough one though, but I never went against my words and the assurance I gave to my employer on how I would be able to carry out my duties.
I made them see my best and in no time, I was promoted as the Personal Assistant. Now it became more challenging, because I was dealing with more people, not just internal but external also. The job to me was an eye opener and I became stronger. There were so much attributes and interpersonal skills that the job required and got me to that position, but the three most important skills are Patience, Good Leadership, and Accountability.

Patience
Dealing with a lot of people, from different background and with different characters can be really challenging and acquires lots patience because some would want to deliberately get to your nerves. Not everyone can tolerate certain behaviors of people and my duties required that from me, my level of patience and tolerance was highly tested. I am a very patience person and I even made this known to my employer how capable I was for the supervisory position because patience is one interpersonal skill that can’t be overemphasized, It’s not everyone that has this skill or can tolerate, but you can learn and develop it because it helps a lot and this helped me, especially when it comes to teaching someone the right thing they need to do.
Good Leadership
When it comes to leadership or leading, most people believe you have to be brutal or very mean before you can lead or control people in other for you to earn your respect. That was not how I played my role, people will respect you if you respect them or respect who they are, but when you lead with brutality what they’ll have for you is fear not respect and immediately you’re out of their sight, what you called to be respect dies and I worked with this. Being in power can intoxicate, especially when you know things can’t be done without you. I didn’t let that get to me. This skill of course is a personal one, and leading by example or practice what you preach will serve you a good accolade.
Accountability
Taking responsibility of my actions and being accountable is one thing I can’t run from and this skill is something I learnt and develop. Do you know that without regular practice, these skills can fade. And without it being taught in the first place, it can’t exist at all. Some people are accountable, and many others wish they could be more accountable. While working, I utilize this skill because the position required of me to be accountable of basically everything that concerns my job role.
