In one way or the other, we all judge. It’s an act that comes naturally that we do not know how and when it comes sometimes. Like sometimes I can be gossiping with a person relating to what someone did and before you know it I would gain my subconsciousness and say "I do not want to judge the person" and then I end the conversation because I feel it’s a wrong thing. We are predisposed to this natural tendency sometimes we do not know when this tendency comes because It is part of our human nature. But why do we judge? People often jump to a conclusion and are quick to condemn others for anything without knowing the cause or the reasons for their actions.
Most people take judging as a means of simply creating a hierarchy of being better than the other person and less than, superior to and inferior to, and to place worth to everyone and everything that they meet. We have the natural urge to be right, to be better, to be superior always. The world is composed of two things which necessitates us to be either right or wrong, so we tend to judge by this things. And so, judgmentalism brings about safety. If you are the “better person” for instance, you don’t have to worry that you might be the “worse” one. You don’t have to consider the fact of feeling of inferior, and not being good enough.
And this is one reason why most people tend to judge. If you are better than someone, you are different from them. You are above them, not with them and so nobody is with you. And this shouldn’t make you change from being what you’re, because real strength is not about being moved my what other people thinks or say. It’s about knowing who you are, standing for what you value, and how you want to live that truth.
But maybe you should also recognize that you have choices. Whether you are judged or being judged, you can choose not to continue the cycle all and all around. You can let go of urge to be better than other people and start holding onto being enough for yourself. You can see yourself as worthy of love and as well other people too, and rest in the knowledge that there is enough love to go around.
The temptation to judge others is best answered by taking a closer look at one's self. Don't judge others just because of what you heard about them or the things they've done. Always give people a chance to prove themselves and it might end up to be a different story. When we are quick to judge, it shuts us down and prevents us from understanding the full situation or a new truth that is not known yet. For instance, You might not know the true situation of an issue and you’re quick to pass judgment on them and later you get to find out the true story but your judgment has already been made and the person already condemned but you can’t take back your words or actions to make amendments because it already have effect on them. So what then do you do? When we judge someone for something, we are actually judging ourselves at the very same thing we just haven’t fully owned or accepted that trait yet within us.
When we judge, what does it really reflect? Is it others or ourselves? The world around us is our mirror because when you point one finger at someone the rest fingers are pointing back at you. And judging someone defines who we are not who they are. More often, the things we detest and judge others for are reflections of the things we cannot accept about ourselves. The way we measure ourselves is how we measure others, and how we assume others measure us.
Well, I wouldn’t say Stop judging others because it’s unwise for me, as all our attempts against this human natural nature may go in vain. Instead, we can learn to manage it by becoming more conscious and self-aware when we judge, and through that awareness, we get to find more interesting ways and thoughts to approach a person by not passing judgment.
