Threading a needle was the first idea that crossed my mind on seeing the prompt, but then, the Ouroboros came to mind! It’s a symbol of eternity, rebirth and so many other positive things. It’s usually in the shape of a snake or dragon. Those are very curvy reptilians, so I thought to make mine angular. As the drawing progressed, it felt like I was designing a piece of jewelry, hence the chain!

Process

For this illustration, I stuck to using ink pens as well as my Sinoart sketchbook

I started by constructing a guide and the general framework of the ouroboros with a pencil. I defined the lines I needed with an ink pen before proceeding to draw the scales. At first, the lines reminded me of the markings of a tiger, it looked pretty cool. When I was done cross-hatching the scales, I made use of hatching to add more depth and volume to the illustration. Then the piece was finished! I wouldn’t mind owning a jewelry piece like this someday ; )
