Peusijuk is a procession of adat performed on certain activities in the life of aceh people. In the aceh language, Peusijuk consists of two words, namely the words Peu and Sijeuk. The word Peu here means as a prefix for the word Sijeuk, and Sijeuk itself means cold. So when combined with the prefix the word Peu becomes the meaning of cooling or making something cold. The purpose of Peusijuk is actually to bless something, including praying for the person who will be in Peusijuk.
According to some historians of Aceh, actually the Peusijuk tradition is one of the Hindu cultural heritage. However, from the customs or customs of Acehnese society, according to the scholars in the early days of Islam in Aceh consider the Peusijuk tradition not to contradict Islam, but some are replaced so that it is still preserved and allowed until now.
In the aceh community, this Peusijuk tradition can be carried out on the marriage of the marriage, the circumcision of the circumcision, at the time of the person who wishes to depart the pilgrimage, the sacrificial peusijuk, and various other ceremonies. Apparently, the Peusijuk tradition is not only done during certain ceremonies, there is also Peusijuk done after the peace between two or a few people who previously fought, Peusijuk on women who have just divorced, Peusijuk on someone who just earn a fortune like graduating from college, received a job in a desired place, get a position / position, and Peusijuk done for someone who get something new, like a new home, or a new vehicle. The object of Peusijuk objects is that the new object is a blessing as long as it is used by the owner.
Typically, the Peusijuk tradition is performed by an elderly person or seen as having an advantage in society, such as a Teungku (ustadz) or Umi Chik (ustadzah or woman who is a master of theology). People who do Peusijuk usually who understand the purpose and prayers are read on Peusijeuk. There are several important elements of this Peusijuk tradition. First, the materials used from the leaves (usually Cocor duck), grass (Manek mano and naleungsambo grass), rice, flour, water, and sticky rice. All these materials contain their respective meanings, such as leaves and grasses containing harmony, beauty, and harmony, all the leaves and grasses are bound as a symbol of strength. Rice means as fertility and prosperity, water and flour implies patience and calm, and sticky rice as a glue means a brotherhood.
Second, the movements made at the time in Peusijuk. To eliminate the movement in Hinduism, its movement only follows the direction of splashing water from left to right and from right to left occasionally crossed. Third, the prayer is read according to the Peusijuk event. Because it comes from Hindu relics, if the first Peusijuk use spells or spells, then now replaced with the reading of prayers in Arabic in accordance with the moment of the Peusijuk. And the last is teumuteuk (giving Money).
Although there are some of us just heard the tradition, but for the people of Aceh Tradition becomes a tradition customary routine in accordance with the moment Peusijuknya. And this is the cultural heritage of the people of Aceh who helped enrich the culture of Indonesia that must continue to be preserved its existence so as not eroded by the more modern times.
