Floods struck six villages across four subdistricts in Aceh Tenggara Regency on Saturday, 26 September 2026, after moderate to heavy rainfall battered the area from early morning until daytime.
According to a report from the Disaster Management Operations Control Centre (Pusdalops) of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Aceh Tenggara, as cited from RRI Takengon on Sunday, 27 September 2026, the floods affected the subdistricts of Lawe Sumur, Bambel, Bukit Tusam, and Ketambe.
Rising water levels in the Lawe Kisam and Lawe Kinga rivers caused a section of the Lawe Kisam River embankment to collapse in Nasi Hamlet, Terutung Megara Lawe Pasaran Village, Lawe Sumur Subdistrict.
The overflow submerged residential areas and agricultural land. Around 40 hectares of rice fields in Terutung Megara Lawe Pasaran Village and 10 hectares in Kisam Gabungan Village were affected.
In addition to flooding, a landslide occurred on the Kutacane–Blangkejeren National Highway, precisely in Kati Maju Village, Ketambe Subdistrict.
Debris from the landslide brought down a State Electricity Company (PLN) utility pole, resulting in power outages across several areas.
The BPBD of Aceh Tenggara recorded that 49 households, comprising 186 people, were affected. There were no reported fatalities and no residents displaced.
The BPBD Aceh Tenggara Rapid Response Team has conducted assessments and data collection across affected locations.
Officials deployed an excavator to repair the breached Lawe Kisam embankment. The heavy machinery is also being used to dredge the river channel to reduce the risk of further overflow.
The BPBD continues to monitor river conditions and affected areas to anticipate potential renewed flooding should heavy rainfall recur in Aceh Tenggara.
