Hello all dear Hivers friends and welcome back to my blog. Today I present to you a watercolor painting of mine representing my idea of De Wallen, the red light district of Amsterdam. I will preface this by saying that I have never been to Amsterdam, but my intention was to represent the most famous red light district in the world. So I tried to imagine and create an atmosphere between the surreal and the murky present in that area, also based on direct testimonies of some friends and acquaintances.
De Wallen includes about three hundred rooms with prostitutes of all nationalities scattered in the alleys of the neighborhood, I want to point out that in Holland prostitution is legal but you cannot practice in the streets. That is why prostitutes are found in small rooms and are often shown in windows illuminated by red lights. However, in Amsterdam a statue has been dedicated to the figure of the prostitute, representing a woman in a doorway.

Ciao a tutti cari amici Hivers e bentornati sul mio blog. Oggi vi presento un mio dipinto ad acquarello che rappresenta la mia idea di De Wallen, il quartiere a luci rosse di Amsterdam. Premetto che non sono mai stato ad Amsterdam, ma la mia intenzione è stata quella di rappresentare il quartiere a luci rosso più famoso del mondo. Così ho cercato di immaginare e creare un'atmosfera tra il surreale e il torbido presente in quella zona, anche sulla base di testimonianze dirette di alcuni amici e conoscenti.
De Wallen comprende circa trecento stanze con prostitute di ogni nazionalità disseminate nei vicoli del quartiere, voglio precisare che in Olanda la prostituzione è legale ma non si può esercitare per strada. Ecco perchè le prostitute si trovano in piccole stanze e spesso si mostrano in vetrine illuminate da luci rosse. Comunque ad Amsterdam è stata dedicata una statua alla figura della prostituta, che rappreseenta una donna sull'uscio di una porta.
