I was talking to someone about the subject of veganism and I mentioned Earthlings which is a movie I saw when it came out close to 15 years ago and which was very shocking to me at the time.
It made me go vegetarian for quite a while though I eventually relapsed because animal products are everywhere and I was living/sharing food with others and it made it very difficult for me to make a firm stand until around 4 years ago when it really hit me deep and I made a firm commitment to become vegan and resist all animal exploitation as much as I reasonably could.
The movie goes into many if not most of the main ways in which animals are exploited including the pet industry, zoos, livestock for food and clothes, fishing, etc, and it shows just how cruel these industries often are.
So I got curious to go find the video on YouTube and read through the comments and it was pretty interesting.
Countless people said the movie made them cry or that they couldn't even watch the whole thing it was so difficult and that it turned many of them vegan.
And then I found this quote which I thought was extra powerful and I wanted to share it. I will also put the link to the movie below if you haven't seen it and are interested.
"I'm an ex soldier, I've seen some bad shit in Iraq such as car bomb scenes with dead burning bodies everywhere but I'm 26 minutes into this and can barely watch it. I think the fact that animals are so faultless, blameless and defenseless is what makes this so hard to watch."
My proposal to you would be that if you still partake in animal exploitation, and you haven't seen this movie... It might be wise to look and see what you're paying for or engaging in.
If you can't even watch the movie, yet are willing to pay or engage in harming and killing animals... That seems odd to me that you won't even look at the results of what you participate in or pay for, you should be willing to look at what you are either directly doing to animals or paying to have done to them... And then if you still have no problem exploiting animals after watching this movie, then I don't know what to say.
