Respected community, I hope you all have a nice week, and that it is of much benefit in personal, social and work terms, everything is important.
For some time I have been observing that many people are presenting mental problems, I think that the pandemic increased this situation. The situation forced us to be more immersed in the digital world, creating a kind of feeling of "feeling connected " with the whole world, but the reality is that it is quite the opposite, I think we are much more isolated.
So I wonder if in an era of digital connectivity and global interconnectedness, is there really an epidemic of loneliness? This question, so basic, leads me to reflect on the impact of technology, changes in society and human nature itself. I know that loneliness is a complex issue that not only refers to a lack of social interaction, but also to a sense of emotional and existential disconnection, do you agree with this?
Nowadays, technology offers us the possibility of being supposedly- "connected" at all times. However, this excessive connectivity can lead to a particular situation: as we become more virtually interconnected, some people feel more lonely in the real world. ***.
More traditional social networks, for example, can create an illusion of connection, but they often lack the depth and authenticity of face-to-face, in-person relationships, as the distance created by the presence of computers or phones as an intermediary ends up affecting true interaction.
It is also important to consider that today's society has undergone significant changes in family structure and the way we relate to each other as a community. Nowadays families tend to be smaller and geographically dispersed, the latter due to problems such as wars, social or economic situation in their countries, they tend to look for other options in different countries, which leads to less emotional and social support.
It should also be noted that we lead a generally accelerated pace of life and work schedules may leave little time to achieve and maintain meaningful long-term relationships.
Of course, there are many factors that can condition us to feel lonely, depending on the stage we are in, as well as our age. For example, younger people may feel lonely due to social pressure and unrealistic expectations, while older adults often experience loneliness as a result of loss of loved ones and physical impairments.
I assume that this possible loneliness epidemic is part of the reason why so many people stay on social networks so long. I know there is a factor of "vice for immediate pleasure" that this generates, but I also believe that when people do not feel lonely, when they are with good company and enjoying the moment, they do not isolate themselves immersed in social networks.
In the end it ends up being a kind of vicious circle, where a person feels lonely but the "solutions " that he/she looks for what they do is to increase the feeling of loneliness. Maybe I am wrong with this statement, but I speak based on my experience, on what I see and perceive.
And we can see people who, even when surrounded by other people, feel alone. This loneliness thing is something quite complex, to tell the truth. The most notable thing about this, at least for me, is that loneliness is not always linked to the lack of physical presence of others, but rather to the lack of meaningful and genuine connections.
Recognizing that loneliness is a problem for many today is crucial to improving this feeling. And I must say at this point that I do not consider loneliness a bad thing, it is good to be able to enjoy solitude, to be with ourselves, but if this makes you feel bad, it is not a good thing.
I think that the main thing is to rescue some basic things as human beings, which is real socialization, not just digital, that the latter is something important, it cannot be denied, but real human contact must occur in person, and with the possibility of creating lasting relationships, not only as a couple but also as friendships.
I had this idea in mind for a few days, but due to work reasons I had not been able to develop it, hoping that this reading brings something to you, I say see you soon. Have a good week.
