Like I said in this post, my husband is an architect and always has "interesting" ideas. Turning a 40' container on its end was crazy enough, now to make it even taller!
The next plan was to weld the doors of the container open at the top. This was very tricky and involved ropes, harnesses, and a lot of care!
I usually stand back and wonder what will happen in the end, but my visionary husband can always see the end product, and he knows it will be awesome. I just can never picture it until it is done!
Time to start painting the containers. He wanted to leave some of the container words visible, but paint it white. It definitely has character!
A concrete pad was placed in between the two containers which will serve as a covered parking space after the roof is installed.
The next piece of the construction of the tower was adding the part that will hold the roof. There is also a little walk out area at the top of the tower. Believe me, it is really high up there!
It is a very unique tower that people always comment on when they come over. It will be used as a workshop and office space in the future. Also the container next to it will be storage and a loft apartment with covered parking.
The floor was recently poured for the loft apartment and office. The roof was installed a little while ago as well. You can see that the rains here are making the bright white tower look a little dirty, but it still does shine at night with the light from our front door reflecting off of it.
In the photo above, you can see that the space is currently being used for storage and a parking space! You can also see the loft apartment bones and how the second container on the right in the photo has been painted. The workers are laying a concrete driveway now in front of the containers - I'll update with a new photo when they finish!
Did you notice the tile details on the stairs going up to the door? We used those tiles in various places throughout the courtyard.
