My husband is an architect and has had many plans for our neighborhood. Even before we moved to Panama, he had a book he was filling with drawings of his ideas. A few years ago, he started construction on our first tower which will eventually become his workshop and office.
The first thing we did was order some containers. As you will see, we have many containers around here. When we first ordered them, they were a great deal, but the price of them has increased over the years due to the shortage.
My husband has many unconventional ideas when it comes to building. When he said he wanted to make a tower with the container, I pretty much thought he was crazy. This is a common occurrence for us - he tells me an idea, I think it's crazy, it ends up working out well. Ha!
The containers were delivered and ready to be set in place. First the base/workshop area had to go in.
Inches often matter when it comes to setting the container at just the right spot, so a lot of helpers were out getting things into position.
Next the tower was stood on end. Here was the moment of truth. I'm pretty sure the crane guy hadn't seen this before and neither had any of the rest of us! We were waiting to see how it would work out, and thankfully it did! A 40 foot container standing on one end!
Another unconventional idea was to cut the front off of the horizontal container and put it on the front of the tower. This meant the crane had to hold it while it was being cut off so it wouldn't fall! After a little time, it was completed!
The tower was then put in place in front of the workshop and welded in place. As you can see, many pieces had to work together well at just the right time!
The doors were put on the front of the tower and welded into place. It was pretty cool to see my husband's vision come to life!
Container Tower #1 is in place. I will post more about its transformation in the next few days! Let me know what you think so far!
