Hello friends! I’ve missed everyone over here at Hive. We’ve had an eventful week being so close to a nearby brushfire: we were waiting on an evacuation order, but luckily the fire is now 87% contained. The heat and Santa Ana winds had us very worried for a moment; we also had 3 or 4 blackouts in the span of a weekend. It's been consistently in the 90s in our neighborhood, and I've been wearing my hair up more often than not. Today I wore it down and styled it for the first time in what feels like months. I was even able to get it somewhat volumized today! I've had flat, fine hair my whole life, so I was really happy with how it looked today.
The real challenge while keeping an eye on the fires was packing up all of my oddities to have them ready to go along with our emergency bags. I just got around to unpacking them this evening, and thought you all would like to see my mummified and dyed fox heart!
This heart was mummified and mounted on a lovely black damask fabric with a filigree frame. It was dyed a beautiful burgundy red. You can see compared to my fingers just how tiny it is! Foxes are one of my favorite animals, and I love knowing that no animal was trapped or hunted to bring this into my home. Before acquiring this piece, I admit that I never gave much thought to what a fox's heart may look like! It strikes me as very similar to a human heart.
I haven't been able to cook much because of the continued heat, but we were blessed with a cool morning this past weekend, so I was able to pop some banana muffins into the oven.
Chocolate will forever be my weakness, so I love taking a boxed banana bread mix and adding in chocolate chips. The only downside to making these is that they go so fast!
Hepburn has been enjoying taking naps in the sun that comes through the window! As soon as I wake up in the morning, she'll run into the other room to hop on the couch and sleep in the sun.
How has everyone else been doing this past week? I feel like I've been gone for so long, I'm looking forward to spending some time online and catching up with everyone.
