This is my entry to "Finish the Fiction Story Contest" hosted by bananafish@bananafish.
Each week an unfinished story or a script is posted, and for this week it can be found here.

MY ENDING OF THE STORY

When Those came out from the corridor they faced the young man in recognizable Border Legionnaire exoskeleton, with a heavy terminator in his arms. From his eyes Those were humanoids… With 4 feet long proboscis almost as a trunk and enormous flat eyes. He pressed the trigger on heavy terminator three times, more in fear than focused, and missed all shots. Those moved extremely fast, he doubt his speed and strength boost from exoskeleton could match their speed. They yelled something which he understood, even though in training he was told no one understands language of Those. Thanks to that lucky circumstance he managed to doge their first attack, but outnumbered he was quickly knocked out.

When he woke up, he saw the XIX-FF burning in near vicinity as well as a dozen of tied Border Legionnaires. Humanoid Those summoned armadillo-like creatures, covered with large scales, from the desert. They started to feed on managems that used to power XIX-FF. After the feast Those hid beneath the scales of armadillos, and one by one went underneath the sand moving in the direction of XVIII-FF. He was sharing a scale shelter with That who knocked him out.

Than the strangest thing happened, That started to talk to him and answer all of his unspoken questions, like he reads his mind.
“We are Free Desert People, the natives to the what you call Lands of Men. Your people usurped and banished us from the Fertile Lands. Ever since we live in the Dry Caves on the other side of the Desert near the Life Fields. We’ll show you the caves after we grab lifegems from your next flying city.”

Armadillos emerged from the sand right beneath the XVIII-FF, and Those hooked them selves with harpoons to the bottom of the fortress. After few hours of battle, the XVIII-FF suffered the same fate as the previous just with little less captured Border Legionnaires.

From the outside, Dry Caves were houses carved in the sand dunes, protected from the sun and heat, it was a place where Those lived. Next to the rocks yellowish talcum powder existed only in traces, it was replaced by… By great field of managems or how Those called it lifegems. “Oooo what would goleminers give to find a field this big” he thought to himself. He was explained by the same That who brought him here that all of the prisoners will be executed on the Life Field as a sacrifice so that lifegems continue to spread from this field across the Desert until whole Desert disappears. “And what about me?” he spoke in the language of Those. “You are part of an old prophecy, I hope… Your future will be decided by the fate. After you drink gem water, you’ll be sent to the Desert in search of a vision. If you find your vision you’ll know what to do and we’ll now we have found long awaited messiah. Or… “
