Hi guys from Hive and the @cinetv community I'm exploring communities and I came across this initiative and I really liked the theme of Cine TV Contest #135 - Favorite Movie Featuring a Mother and I'm taking this opportunity to participate and tell you about a movie I saw for the first time when I was 12 years old and I rewatch it whenever I can.
The movie is called: Anne's Choice
It's not my favorite movie, but it's one of the movies that has left me with a lot of questions because we see situations in it that are very difficult to talk about if you haven't experienced them firsthand. And I know I'm too young to understand some adult things, but I've seen the movie like five times and I still struggle to understand many things.
This film is about a girl named Anne, who was conceived by her parents at the request of Kate's oncologist. Anne's sister suffers from a very serious illness and, as a result, needs donors who are genetically compatible with her, since her parents and older brother are not compatible.
Thus, Anne is conceived through designer in vitro fertilization, which from what I understand is something like a planned conception so that she can be genetically compatible with her sister Kate and assist her in whatever she medically needs.
This is where the biggest question arises for me: How is it possible to conceive a child to save the other? The mother, a lawyer named Sara, does everything possible to save her daughter Kate, but at the expense of her other daughter, Anne. To me, it's contradictory. But looking at it from Kate's perspective, I think she was the best mother in the world because she wanted to save her at all costs. So much so that her mother fought a legal battle against her own daughter, Anne, to get her to continue acting as her daughter's donor in an attempt to save her daughter at all costs, putting her relationship with her husband at risk and neglecting her eldest son. #
As the mother, I don't know what my reaction would be to this case. I have many mixed feelings. As Anne, I would feel very frustrated that my parents conceived me only to save my children. My sister would feel unimportant and unappreciated. As Kate, I would feel very proud of my mother and very loved by her.
But from my perspective, Sara was a very bad mother for wanting to hold on to her daughter and try to save her even though she was suffering greatly and no longer wanted to live. She also caused great pain to her daughter, Anne, as she also suffered because her mother forced her to give parts of her body to Kate.
One of the events that most impacted me in the film was when Anne's mother tried to force her to donate her kidney to her sister Kate, even though the doctors told her that this could affect Anne's health and that there was a risk that she wouldn't be able to be a normal child, that she wouldn't be able to do simple things like run or play.
I think that in the first place I would not have had a daughter just to use her as a spare to save another daughter, I see it as very selfish on her part, I think that if it were to happen to me, which I hope never happens to me, I would focus on spending better family time with my two children and my husband, always asking them if they agree or not with the decisions that need to be made. #
My favorite scene in the movie was when the older brother stands in court and tells his mother that his sister no longer wants to live, and many of the reasons why Anne decided to sue her mother are revealed. This is where everything takes a surprising turn, and I invite you to watch it and find out what happened.
I found the ending very sad, but at the same time the best; mother and younger daughter were able to reconcile and forgive each other despite everything they had been through. Honestly, I would have liked a different ending where everyone lived happily, however, the film leaves a very significant lesson for me:
"Mothers sometimes fight with all their might when it comes to their children, often without considering the consequences of their actions." Maybe I'll learn this when I'm a mother in a few years.
For now, I'll continue reflecting and trying to learn many things that are still unclear to me about the film.
This has been my review. I hope you liked it. Oh, and in my country, we celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May. I wish my mother and all mothers the best in the world, and thank you for giving us the best every day.
Bye guys, see you in the next post.
