There are different types of spoon according to their uses - spoon for eating, for cooking, and for serving. Spoons also have different sizes that are made up with metals, plastics and woods. But I guess spoon are made basically to ladle or to scoop and for other reasons- that you just don't want to touch food(substance) with your bare hands.
