Hoy vengo a compartir con ustedes imágenes de otras orquídeas que tengo en mi pequeño jardín. En este caso les presento mis orquídeas Spathoglottis Plicata, que es el nombre por el que se la conoce científicamente. Sin embargo, coloquialmente también se la conoce como orquídea filipina, orquídea terrestre u orquídea de jardín. Este tipo de orquídeas son originarias del continente asiático, a diferencia de otros tipos de orquídeas, estas tienen un comportamiento peculiar. Resulta que son orquídeas terrestres, es decir, pueden desarrollarse perfectamente en una maceta o directamente en el suelo, a esta peculiaridad debe sus nombres de orquídea terrestre u orquídea de jardín.
Today, I come to share with you images of other orchids that I have in my small garden. In this case I present my orchids Spathoglottis Plicata, that is the name by which it is known scientifically. However, colloquially it is also known as Philippine orchid, terrestrial orchid or garden orchid. This type of orchids are native to the Asian continent, unlike other types of orchids, these have a peculiar behavior. It turns out that they are terrestrial orchids, that is to say, they can develop perfectly in a pot or in the ground directly, to this peculiarity it owes its names of terrestrial orchid or garden orchid.
Son muy fáciles de cultivar, porque no son muy exigentes y no requieren de muchos cuidados. Se adapta muy bien a la luz solar directa, sin embargo, se desarrolla mejor en un lugar donde durante el día recibe entre sombra ligera a sol parcial. En cuanto al riego, conviene regarlos a diario, pero ... es importante asegurarse de que el suelo esté bien drenado. Si no tienen un buen drenaje, con el tiempo sus raíces tienden a pudrirse, lo que hace que mueran irremediablemente. Te lo digo por experiencia, aprendí por las malas y ya pasé por esa desafortunada experiencia.
They are very easy to cultivate, because they are not very demanding and do not require much care. It adapts very well to direct sunlight, however, it develops better in a place where during the day it receives between light shade to partial sun. As for watering, they should be watered daily, but... it is important to make sure that the soil is well drained. If they do not have a good drainage, with time their roots tend to rot, which causes them to die irremediably. I tell you from experience, I learned the hard way and I already went through that unfortunate experience.
Te recomiendo mucho que las tengas en tu jardín, porque si están en las condiciones adecuadas, resultan muy generosas y florecen todo el año. Sus hermosas y delicadas flores suelen ser de color violeta, rosa, blanco e incluso hay algunas variaciones de amarillo. Desafortunadamente, como pueden ver en las fotos de mi pequeño jardín, solo tengo morado y rosa.
I highly recommend you to have them in your garden, because if they are in the right conditions, they turn out to be very generous and bloom all year round. Its beautiful and delicate flowers are usually purple, pink, white, and there are even some yellow variations. Unfortunately, as you can see in the pictures in my small garden, I only have purple and pink.
Ahora les voy a contar cómo llegaron a ser las 5 plantas de este tipo que tengo en mi jardín, primero les diré que todas me las regalaron. Tres de ellos, que son rosas, fueron los primeros en llegar y me los dio mi papá. Le encantan las plantas, tiene muchas, así que me trasplantó algunas de las plantas que tiene en su jardín. Y una vez que vino a visitarme desde Carúpano, mi ciudad natal, me los trajo como regalo.

Las otras dos, moradas, tienen una historia peculiar, un día salí al jardín y encontré en una de las rejas que da a la calle, dos macetas diminutas cada una con una plantita diminuta. No tenía idea de qué tipo de plantas eran, incluso pensé que eran pequeñas palmeras. Resulta que casualmente las hojas de este tipo de orquídeas se parecen a las de las palmas bebé, son hojas alargadas y plisadas. De hecho, la forma de sus hojas es lo que da origen a su nombre, ya que Plicatus en latín significa plisado.
The other two, purple, have a peculiar story, one day I went out to the garden and found on one of the railings overlooking the street, two tiny pots each with a tiny little plant. I had no idea what kind of plants they were, I even thought they were small palm trees. It turns out that coincidentally the leaves of this type of orchid resemble those of baby palms, they are elongated and pleated leaves. In fact, the shape of its leaves is what gives rise to its name, since Plicatus in Latin means pleated.

Pero ... volviendo a la historia, tomé las plantas y las coloqué en el jardín donde todos los que pasaban pudieran verlas, esperando que apareciera su dueño. Unas semanas después, escuché un golpe en la puerta y cuando salí, encontré a una viejecita, a quien nunca había visto antes en mi vida. Y ... ¡sorpresa! .... Resulta que esta señora era la que había dejado allí las plantas como regalo. Según me contó, pasaba con frecuencia, de camino a visitar a una amiga, y las orquídeas de mi jardín le llamaron la atención. Cuando se dio cuenta de que yo no tenía nada de ese tipo, muy amablemente decidió traerme de su casa. Desafortunadamente, sin embargo, el día que pasó, no había nadie en casa y, para no llevarlos de regreso, los hizo pasar por la puerta.
But... back to the story, I took the plants and placed them in the garden where everyone who passed by could see them, waiting for their owner to appear. A few weeks later, I heard a knock at the door and when I went out, I found a little old lady, whom I had never seen before in my life. And... surprise!.... It turns out that this lady was the one who had left the plants there as a gift. According to what she told me, she was passing by frequently, on her way to visit a friend, and the orchids in my garden caught her attention. As she realized that I didn't have any of that kind, she very kindly decided to bring me some from her house. Unfortunately, however, on the day she came by, no one was home and so as not to take them back, she put them through the gate.
Por supuesto, le agradecí mucho su bonito y curioso regalo, y desde ese día, a menudo nos dejaba una nueva planta en el jardín. En varias ocasiones también le compartí algunas plantas que no tenía en su jardín. La verdad es que con esa experiencia entendí que el "Fan Club" de mi jardín no solo estaba formado por mi familia y los pájaros, mariposas, abejas, cigarrones, etc., parecía que mis vecinos también lo disfrutaban mucho.
