Drenching
On my small farm this week the cattle needed drenching. I do this to control internal and external parasites.
In this instance I chose a triple action drench which kills many types of internal parasites. The triple action helps to kill worms that have a resistance to single action or dual action drench.
This year I have 22 weaner bulls on my property. 17 of them are Jersey Bulls which are sold to a neighbour who keeps them on and sells them for breeding at 2 years old. For them to be saleable they have to reach 300kgs by December this year. I also have 5 Hereford x Bulls which I will sell at some stage when the price is right. I kept them after rearing because I had lots of grass.
These bulls need drenching every 28 days to ensure they keep gaining as much weight as possible. After 28 days they are more likely to get a worm infestation which stops the weight gain and often makes them lose weight quickly.
To begin with I have to get them into the yards. SO... I call them and they usually come running which makes my life a lot easier.
Result
I'm pretty pleased with how they weighed and I'm hopeful they will make weight by December.
There were 2 smaller ones but most were around 150 - 160kgs.
I have a friend come and help me with this job as though not impossible to do by myself, it sure does make it a little easier.
I also wanted to mount the scales on a post so that they are easier to see while weighing so I found a bracket in the shed and attached it to a post.
