“Hol’ up, hol’ up, hol’ up,
we gon’ do it like this,
okay? I’ma tell you where I’m from,
okay? You gon’ tell me where you from,
okay? Or where your grandma stay,
where your mama stay,
or where your daddy stay, okay?”
“Enough with all this talkin’.”
- (Outro Skit) Poetic Justice
These lines are from the Outro Skit of Kendrick Lamar’s song Poetic Justice. The skit although powerful and vivid still left people wondering one major question. What was Kendrick Lamar’s response? The world may never know. But if Kendrick Lamar was from Tulsa I would imagine “Go Ask ‘em” by Cutty Forever would be his response.
Go Ask ’em is the last track on Cutty Forever’s self-titled project “Forever”. The 9 track EP touches on a slew of topics from love, to hate, to depression. But what’s most obvious about this EP is that it shows Cutty Forever in his element,
What I like about the track Go Ask ’em is first of all the production. The hard hitting 808 drums sync perfectly with Cutty Forever’s voice to further emphasis metaphors and clever lines. I also think Cutty’s delivery and flow show his ability as an experienced rapper that knows his sound and is able to be creative, while at the same time still being able to appease his core audience. The track is catchy I would say the chorus most of all, which is what you want from a song is for the chorus to give the track character and to stick with the audience. Which is most likely why most songs are named after words or phrases from the chorus. Overall Go Ask ’em is the perfect song to end an EP. It answers any questions left that the listener may have had about the EP, while at the same time giving the listener something to hear more of in the future.
But Ima gangsta nigga,
Come from bangin’ nigga,
When it’s beef I’m like what’s shakin nigga,
Quit the fakin’ nigga,
Like a barber Ima cape a nigga,
Damn let’s shave a nigga,
Man tell me why you saved a hoe,
But won’t save yo nigga,
