So the other day I was flipping randomly through the TV stations and marveling, as I'm sure most of us have, at how even with all these channels, there is simply nothing on worth watching.

Flip, flip, pause, nope, flip, flip, flip, pause, nope... you all know the drill

Finally I settle on a station that does old sitcom re-runs. You know the kind, 2 hour blocks from a particular show, usually in no logical order but hey its almost background noise. A familiar sound after you've seen the show a few dozen times and can sing along or do the dialog yourself.

This particular day was re-runs of a show called 3rd Rock From the Sun. As the episode ended and the next began, I glanced over at my wife. Not even realizing what she was doing, she was hummi
ng along and tapping her toes to the theme music from the show. Her head was a-bobbing, small little smile on her face and as continued to run Delve in Path of Exile. I'm not even sure she was conscious what was happening or what she was doing.

The music stopped, so did her toe-tapping, head bopping and the smile went away replaced by a look of concentration as she scurried to catch up to the crawler and remain in the light. As she completed her current run and headed back to the vendor to sell I decided to ask her if she was aware of her actions. She indicated that "kinda" or "barely" would be appropriate answers. I asked if she could tell me anything about what episode was on and she had absolutely no clue. It seems only the theme music penetrated her consciousness.

She did say she's always found that theme a happy, bouncy one and it generally puts her in a good mood whenever its on (for those 90 seconds lol). That got me thinking. We started talking about what other old shows had theme music that had the same effect. What other shows had music that evoked a different emotion when the theme was played?

We talked for a bit, threw out the names of various shows, some current, most old (we are not young'uns anymore ourselves).

For me, I came up with a couple

Happy Days - This had to be one of the first ones for me

Greatest American Hero - just an uplifting song whos lyrics fit the premise of the show so well

Gilligan's Island - you just have to bop along, I think its encoded in our genes

Friends - again, just a nice rhythmic upbeat song

Fresh Prince of Bel-air

and what has to be my favourite:
Cheers - c`mon everyone knows your name!!!

I thought it might be interesting to open this question up to the community and see what answers were given

So, to my fellow Steemians, I ask:
What TV show theme music makes you feel happy?
Why does it have that effect?
What other show's theme evokes a different feeling? Which feeling
