Hello everyone and welcome to the Battle Weekly Challenge. This week the challenge is with Lava Spider, a common fire element card with the Snipe ability. This card belongs to the Chaos Legion edition and is part of the Starter cards, so we can use it for free.
In this battle I had to fight with an opponent with a higher level of cards than mine. Anyway it is something that does not worry me, since all opponents can be defeated using the right strategy even if we start with some disadvantage such as the level of our cards. So let's see how the battle went.
Battle Rules
This time it is a 20 mana battle in which only Fire, Water, Life and Death elements can be used. The Earth and Dragon elements are not allowed in this battle. Therefore, we can only use 4 of the 6 elements that there are in Splinterlands. The special rules for this battle are; Equalizer and Odd Ones Out.
| Icon | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Odd Ones Out | Only Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles. | |
| Equalizer | The initial Health of all Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base Health. |
In order to benefit as much as possible from the Equalizer rule, we will try not to use high HP monsters and focus on high damage and using as many monsters as possible.
The Odd Ones Out rule is also important, having an idea of mana points of a few monsters helps in predicting what your opponent can and cannot use.
My Lineup
Tarsa was surrounded by a tribe of barbarians. Barbarians that were angry she was on their land, using their resources, and hunting their animals. They tried to talk to her, but Tarsa cared little for conversation. She was stronger than all of them combined. She flicked her wrist and bolts of fire shot from her spinning torrent, impacting the warriors around her. They screamed. She laughed. “Well, come on!” she shouted. “Let's see if any of you are strong enough for Tarsa! |
Tarsa: In a battle with the Equalizer rule this summoner is an amazing choice as she gives +1 health to all friendly monsters and +1 melee damage to all friendly monsters with melee attack. This allows us to have a little advantage since we will have one more health point than our opponent's monsters. In addition, the extra point of damage will allow us to lower the health of enemy monsters faster.
Radiated Scorcher: I have used this card as a tank because for only 1 mana we will have a card with a lot of health thanks to the Equalizer rule. Using low mana cards will allow us to use more monsters in this battle.
Creeping Ooze: Ooze is one of those cards that fits very well into almost any composition. I find it especially good in low mana games thanks to its "Slow" ability, which reduces the attack speed of all enemy monsters allowing our monsters to attack first and have less chance to miss.
Djinn Apprentice: I like to use at least one magic damage card to avoid my opponent's heavily armored monsters. Monsters with magic attack may do damage from any row, since this form of attack ignores the defender’s Armor STAT (damage is applied directly to health). Unless there is a monster with Phase on the enemy's team, magic attack will always hit. There is no miss chance.
Serpentine Spy: One of my favorite fire element cards. His Opportunity ability allows him to attack from any position and target the enemy monster with the lowest health.
Uraeus: I like to use Uraeus with Serpentine Spy as I consider them a good combo. Uraeus can target the last monster on the enemy team with his Sneak ability and Serpentina Spy can help him to kill faster when the monster of the last position has the lowest health.
Lava Spider: Finally, I have chosen Lava Spider to target enemy monsters with ranged, magic or no attack that are not in the first position. One of my main objectives with Lava Spider is to attack enemy healing monsters, as they are quite strong in battles with the Equalizer rule.

Did your strategy work?
I think my strategy worked well. We have chosen the fire element because it has very strong monsters with low mana and odd mana. We have managed to use 6 monsters to benefit from the Equalizer rule as much as possible while our opponent could only use 4 because he chose monsters with a high mana cost. We can see that even if his monsters had higher level we have finally won.
What will you try differently next time?
Next time I will try not to split the damage so much in battles with Equalizer. Monsters increase their health quite a lot with the Equalizer rule, so I think it's better to focus the damage on the same target.
Do you like the Lava Spider?
Yes, I like Lava Spider. Personally it is a card that I use a lot because I like its low mana cost. For only 3 mana Lava Sniper has 4 health and the Snipe ability, which I consider to have a great impact especially in low mana battles. Also, I like to play this card with the summoner Tarsa, since she increases her health by +1 and is even stronger.
