Hello everyone and welcome to the Battle Weekly Challenge. This week the challenge is with Chaos Knight, a common Life element card with the Shield ability. This card belongs to the Chaos Legion edition and is part of the Starter cards, so we can use it for free.

In this particular battle we are facing a level 2 Obsidian summoner. As he has a level 2 summoner, he was able to use several level 2-3 cards while I could only use level 1 cards, so I was at a bit of a disadvantage. Nevertheless, let's see the rules, the team and the details of the battle to see who finally won.

Battle Rules

This is a 40 mana battle with the "Weak Magic" and "Reverse Speed" rules in which all elements except Fire and Dragon are allowed.

IconNameDescription
Weak MagicMagic attacks hit Armor before reducing Health.
Reverse SpeedMonsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
  • A trick for this ruleset is to pick monsters with 1-2 speed because they have the best chance of evading Melee and Ranged attacks and they’re going to attack first.

  • Monsters with a lot of armor will also be useful in this ruleset to protect our team against monsters with magic attack as they will hit armor before health.

My Lineup

A Khymerian prophecy says that a chosen hero will rise from humble beginnings to wield the Silver Shield and the Silver Sword, uniting the world against evil. Whispers in Khymeria say that Tyrus Paladium, the talented summoner who began as a fisherman is that chosen hero.

Tyrus Paladium: I think using Tyrus Paladium as summoner in this battle is a good option as it can help a lot in this ruleset. Giving all friendly monsters +1 Armor prevents us from taking magical attacks directly to Health due to the "Weak Magic" rule.

Chaos Knight: I have decided to use Chaos Knight in the first position because we do not have to worry too much about the magic attack in this battle. In my opinion, Chaos Knight's main weakness is magic attacks, as he has low HP and his Shield ability only defends him from melee and ranged attacks. However, in this battle we have many resources to defend against magical attacks, such as the amount of armor along with the "Weak Magic" rule or the Crystal Werewolf card, which reduces the magic attack of enemy monsters by -1. So I think it is the right time to use this card to defend our team mainly from melee and ranged attacks.

Shieldbearer: I have used this card to take full advantage of the potential of our Chaos Knight tank. All enemy monsters in the backline target Shieldbearer thanks to its Taunt ability. In this way, Chaos Knight only has to defend himself from the enemy monsters of the first position which usually have melee attack, which makes him extremely strong as it only takes half the melee and ranged attack damage with its Shield ability. Therefore, by using Shieldbearer we can defend our entire team with its Taunt ability and at the same time take advantage of Chaos Knight's potential.

Sand Worm: I think this card is very good in this battle. Its high attack (5) and its high HP (5) make him a very strong monster, but the most important thing in this battle is its low Speed (1), since monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks due to the "Reverse Speed" rule.

Cave Slug: I think this card is very good as its Opportunity ability allows him to attack from any position and target the enemy monster with the lowest HP. In addition, by having only 1 Speed we can take advantage of the "Reverse Speed" rule.

Pelacor Arbalest: I like this card as it attacks twice with his Double Strike ability. It basically deals 4 damage every turn, which is very powerful.

Crystal Werewolf: In the last position I decided to use Crystal Werewolf. I saw that my opponent used a lot of magic attack monsters in his last games, so I decided to use this card that reduces the magic attack of all enemy monsters by -1. In addition, using it in the last position allows us to defend our strongest monsters with low HP like Pelacor Arbalest from enemy monsters with the Sneak ability.

Did your strategy work?

I think my strategy worked quite well. I was able to beat an opponent with higher level cards than mine relatively easily. I think the main reason for my victory was to take into account the two rules of battle: "Weak Magic" and "Reverse Speed". I was able to make a very strong team by taking advantage of these two rules and that could fight against everything; magic, melee and ranged teams. So I’m proud of the result and the strategy I used.

Do you like the Chaos Knight?

Yes, I like Chaos Knight. I think it is a very good card if we use it in the right battles. I don't think it's a card that works well in every composition, but if we use it in the right games it can make the difference between victory and defeat. Basically, we have to make the best use of his Shield ability, which reduces damage of melee and ranged attacks by half (except monsters with attack 1 which deals 0 damage). So if you are sure you are going to take a lot of damage from melee and ranged attacks just use it!
