It was a busy day for me as i went for a last minute shopping with my friend IJ. She came all the way from school to the market to buy a dinner gown for our department night.

Department night is a night choosen by department of study to party once every year. There are many activites that goes on in that night to create some fun for the students and they include dancing competition, singing, choreography, dramas etc. It will last from dusk to dawn and we chose one of the biggest hotels in the city for this night.

While in the market, we tested a lot of dinner gowns that would be suitable for the party and you know us womem we wouldn't want to settle for less. I had planned to go to the hospital from the market to visit my sick mother. She was very sick
and so was admitted in the hospital I visit her every weekends and i use to sleep over till Monday morning when i will go back to school.

Though it wasn't weekned, i still felt that urge to go spend the night in the hospital with my mum and go back to school the next day for the party. While still in the market, i recieved a call from my sister who was with my mum in the hospital that i should not bother coming that i should go back to school and come to the hospital later in the weekned. I was angry with her and asked her what right does she have to tell me when to visit my mother.

After buying all that we would be needing for the party, IJ boarded a bus back to school while i boarded one going to the hospital. The busstop that i alighted was just a stone throw to the hospital yet i spent over thirty minutes before i finally entered the hospital and this was because of the many masquarades that was around that area. I was on the first floor and was about heading to the second floor when i saw Sandra. She attends to her sick brother in the hospital and their room was very close to our's. When she saw me she stopped me and asked where i was going.

It was the most shocking and frightening question that i have ever heard in my life.

This youngwoman knew that i have a sick mother in the hospital so why then did she asked me that question. I ignored her and made my way up but she grabbed my arm so tight.

Your mother is dead.

I starred at her as if she was a ghost and then still made my way upstairs to my mother's room. It was the longest journey of my life. I gently turned the knob and opened the door. Hoping and praying that Sandra was just joking.

The bed was empty.
The room was empty.

The last image i have of my mother was when i was going home two days ago and we bid each other goodbye. I promised her that i will come back soon to stay with her.

I did come back but she was no where to be found.

I called my sister and from my tune she guessed that i was in the hospital. She asked me to come back home immediately. The journey back home was what i cannot describe. Though the bus was filled up with passengers i was all alone in grief. I wasn't crying but the tears couldn't stop. It was coming from my eyes and nostrils.

The loss of a mother...

This is the greatest sorrow a heart can bear.
