Yesterday being Sunday I was in a dilemma on what I and my children will eat after church service. I have already prepared white rice that morning but unfortunately I didn't get to prepare my tomatoes stew that will be used to eat the rice because all fresh tomatoes were already sold out by the time I went out in the evening to buy some.

So I decided to buy them that Sunday after church service because I knew they would have restocked by then. My children as expected were already complaining of hunger and I promised them delicious snacks to munch on while they wait for the stew to be ready. So after the church service, I went to buy the fresh tomatoes and i was so shocked on how costlier it have become.

I was still wondering in my mind how people are actually surving in the country considering the economic hardship and how the prices of foodstuffs keeps skyrocketing everyday when this youngman joined us. His clothes were old and all stained with paints which showed that he was a painter and probably on duty but came to buy fresh tomatoes that he will use to cook. He walked closer to the seller and whispered something into his ear obviously he dosen't want us to hear what he was telling the seller.

The seller betrayed this youngman by shouting out that he doesn't sell two hundred naira fresh tomatoes. The youngman was ashamed but he continued pleading with the man to sell for him but all his pleadings was like water being poured on a stone. It was obvious that all this youngman had on him was that two hundred naira and i felt compelled to help out.

I told the seller to attend to him that I will complete the payment. I asked him if he need onions and fresh peppers and he replied yes. The seller packaged everything for him and he was very happy. He kept on thanking me that I even started feeling shy. I didn't do much for him but his gratitude was as if i bought him a house.

When heq left I was so touched and really wished that I was buoyant enough to do so much for him. After getting all what i came to buy I went back home deep in thought. The economy is no longer smiling and many people who cannot afford the new prices of groceries in the market will be left to starve.

I was very excited that I was there to help that youngman because I know what it feels like to not have enough. It made me to remember those days when i experienced financial difficulty, it was people that always come to my help. Apart from that, I was also inspired by Mrs kennedy who happened to be the assistance manager in the previous company that I work in. She was a giver and oneday as she was buying groceries with her husband, a man in his late fifties walked up to her and begged her to buy a little rice for him to feed his hungry family. She did not stopped at buying just rice but she also bought beans, garri and other groceries for the man. The man was just shouting in appreciation. She was indeed a great leader and leaders lead by example. I may not be able to buy as much as she bought for that man but I did the little that I can.

In this life, we all need each other to survive and also we might not be able to save the whole world but we can save one person at a time.
