Hello, steem people! Welcome to my page!
It's been about a week and a half since my last update about my community garden plots, so it seemed like a good time to do another update. I went up there yesterday to mow the grass, and I took some pictures while I was up there, of course.
The corn has grown a lot since my last update. This is an early season hard corn that is decorative and is also very good for grinding for flour. The variety is called "Painted Mountain" and was developed in Montana from multiple varieties of Native American corn. This short season corn will grow at altitudes as high as 6000 feet, and is more nutritious than any of the commercial varieties of field corn, according to testing that has been done on it.
This is what the corn looked like a week and a half ago.
This is the picture that I took yesterday. As you can see, the tassels are out, and there are ears with corn silk waiting for the pollen.
The pole beans on this end of the garden are doing well. You can see them climbing up the corn stalks. They're starting to flower now also.
I think I probably planted too many pumpkin seeds. I didn't think that they would all germinate and grow, I usually don't have such good luck with pumpkin seeds. There's 8 pumpkin plants, and they're starting to take over the garden.
On the other side of the pumpkin patch are my Delecata winter squash plants. You can tell the difference between them and the pumpkin plants by the color and size of the leaves. Also, the squash leaves don't grow as tall as the pumpkin leaves.
The potatoes are still doing quite well, although they are done flowering now and will slow down and start dieing back in a couple of weeks. These plants are Norland Reds, a short season variety.
Another look at the corn from the back side of the plot.
That's all I have for this community garden plot update, thanks for stopping by to check it out!
